Drip
Drip
Drop
Sobbing, echoing throughout the dark stone walls of the cavern, the only thing piercing the darkness
Pitter, pit, patter
The sound of small feet running across the slick cool stone
A little girl, tattered and broken, whimpering with every other step, pain coursing through her with each off beat. Her furrowed brow, her tightly pursed lips, signifying her determination fueling every step
Her heart seemingly beating out of her chest, sweat dripping down her dirtied features
A few days earlier, she had slipped into her favorite lavender dress, in order to see her sickly mother, bed ridden for the past ten years
but now it has been tinted by the yellowed crimson red of violent blood and bodily fluids, the results of the past few days in the dark, her pale skin, now a ghostly white, clung to her small body
Her dirty blond hair matted into disgusting dreads with streaks of red throughout
Drip
Drop
Drop
The rhythmic splats of her own blood countering the off-beat patters of her running, trying not to slip on the slick stone floor
Drop
Drip
Slip
Her severely injured leg, from her fall into the darkness of the cave, giving out from under her, feeling jagged stones cut into her stomach
With a painful, angry cry, she desperately claws with her bloodied nails against the smooth stone, anything to drag herself forward, but it is too late
The heavy galloping clacks of claws resonating against stone, coming from behind her. The heavy growls of a creature, full of blood lust, ready for a feast
Spiteful determination fills the girls heart, pushing herself up, she readies herself in defense, bearing her teeth in an animalistic way, ready to fight for her life
She squints into the darkness, trying to assess her enemy, just as she's heard she's supposed to do
Blinking rapidly, her eyes adjust to witness the looming bear Infront of her
Its low, guttural growl
Saliva dripping from its exposed fangs
The soft fur of a black bear, a hulking mass of muscle and fat
Dropping into a low stance, the girl bears her fangs in return, letting out a primal growl from her small frame, flexing her hands
And with one final 'Plop' the two engage each other
The girl, rushing with surprising speed, dashes towards the bear
The beast slashes with its massive claws, but the girl ducks, socking it in it's jaw
But she misses the other claw, coming to bat her away
It catches her in the chest, sending her head flying backwards, her body hitting the stone floor
The bear goes to lunge towards the still body, but before it makes contact with her, her legs shoot out
Throwing her body up right, she winces as she puts her weight on her injured leg, but the adrenaline softening the pain
Drop
Drop
Drip
The girl jumps up as the bear crashes face first into the ground
She grabs a fist full of fur near its neck
Her hands bawling up into a fist, driving it towards it's face, into any vulnerable spot she can
It gives a pitying howl of pain
It gets up onto it's hind legs, thrashing it's body to send the small beast like girl flying
But through boiling rage and determination, she grips the fur harder, digging her nails into her palms, biting through the fur and into it's it to create any kind of hold she can
Then, with a gymnastic like motion, the girl swings her legs, throwing herself firmly around the bears neck, straining to get a good grip around it
Using the momentum of the thrashing, along with her own deteriorating body weight, she twists its neck
With a horrifying 'Crack' the bear goes limp, falling onto its back
There, panting, the girl climbs up onto it's large stomach
She starts to tear at the fur on the round chest of the beast, clawing to expose its skin
with a triumphant sigh, she has achieved her goal
Her crimson eyes staring at the exposed chest. letting a soft, almost insane giggle escape her mouth
With surprising, and terrifying force, she bears her fangs and tears, desperately, with feral rage, until a soft spurt of red fluid sprays her, rolling across her skin
The young beast fills her belly, then limps out of the carcass
Her fraying dress, now dyed a deep crimson red, partially dragging across the stone floor
Drip
Drip
blood, continuing to rhythmically pat against the ground
She has survived another day
Limping into the darkness
