Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: January 22, With No Victor or Loser

And so, the Holy Grail War came to an end.

Kirei Kotomine's whereabouts became unclear, and it was only confirmed that the Supervisor of the Holy Grail War had died.

Tokiomi surrendered the moment he lost his Servant. In exchange for his life, he handed over 10% of his assets (including stocks and buildings) to us, and was subsequently stripped of his right to participate in the Holy Grail War.

Tokiomi, with a bitter smile, had no choice but to accept this situation.

"Ah, and the Matou family is gone now. The bloodline might remain, but that old man was a lump of malice, so I had no choice but to exterminate him. Even if he were alive, he'd be dead within a year."

"Then what happened to Sakura?"

"Sakura is with us. Why did you have to hand her over to Zouken Matou of all people... Honestly, you might think it's happiness as a magus, but in truth, Zouken Matou saw Sakura as a vessel for his next body. You might not have known since he was inhuman anyway, but Zouken Matou, having lived for 500 years, had already lost his purpose and only his survival instinct remained, so you should see him as just a senile old man."

"...Can I meet Sakura?"

"You have no right. A family member threw her into a pit of worms. Do you think Sakura would be happy to see you?"

Tokiomi could only frown.

Even for a magus, he had trusted the Matou family and handed her over, but perhaps he had no information on what that family was thinking. He looked as if he had been hit hard in the back of the head.

Realizing that his flesh and blood were seen as nothing more than tools by Zouken Matou, Tokiomi showed regret for handing her over without prior investigation.

"...I don't even have the right to be a father to Sakura..."

Perhaps realizing that even he thought it was wrong, he sat down dizzily and looked up at the sky.

"I fought to obtain the Grail, but perhaps I wasn't even qualified as a father..."

"...I suppose so."

"Hmph, but if I just sit here and take it, it wouldn't be fitting for the Tohsaka family. I declare war on the Matou family."

"Even if you wait, he'll die anyway?"

At that, Tokiomi shook his head.

"That might be your goal, but I believe it is what I must do as a family member and a father. I am certainly a magus, but I did not wish to become a cold-hearted father who gave no affection to his family. However, this is clearly my sin. And my anger, and my atonement, and what I believe I must do as a foolish father who trusted the Matou family."

"Fine, win or lose. You'll have to leave this place. I'll protect Rin and Sakura."

"...I see. Indeed, with a Heroic Spirit who is a legendary magus, there will be nothing to worry about. But is 10% of our assets enough?"

"That's just a means to secure my funds. If I take responsibility for Rin and Sakura, I'll have to endure like a dirt spoon..."

Tokiomi just smiled.

Or maybe it wouldn't be bad to extort money from the Magus Killer.

"But what about Kirei Kotomine?"

"I don't know. They say Risei Kotomine is dead. Shot without resistance, they say. All the Command Spells are gone."

"Kirei, is it..."

"Circumstantially, there's no reason for Kirei to kill him, but his whereabouts are strange, and the Command Spells have disappeared, so it wouldn't be strange if Kirei, who has the qualifications of a successor, took them."

"..."

"If I die, please take care of Aoi, Sakura, and Rin. If I die, I have written a will to sell all my assets and have them go to Aoi or you before going to Rin. It's because I can't hand them over to Rin, who is economically weak."

At those words, I knew Tokiomi was going to his death.

"Are you going to die?"

"No, just in case. Even if it is Zouken Matou, he is a magus who has survived for 500 years. That is why I must take out insurance. If I cannot win, I intend to die with him. Even for the Tohsaka family, sitting by and doing nothing after being treated like this is unacceptable as a Tohsaka and as a father. This is a matter between the Tohsaka and Matou families, so I would appreciate it if you did not interfere."

It was the first time I realized he had a human side.

"But if you're human, why was your preliminary investigation so lacking?"

"As one of the founding families of the Holy Grail War, I trusted the Matou family too much, and as a result, this situation occurred."

"...If you survive, what do you plan to do?"

Tokiomi looked quietly at the sky, and after a while, said:

"I plan to go to London. It's the Tohsaka family, but I've acted too poorly as a father, and I've lost a lot in this Holy Grail War. Even with the mindset of a magus, I wanted to be a good father, but it seems that didn't go well. Reaching the Root would be good, but having sent Sakura to a living hell... no matter how good the Root is, Sakura might no longer see me as a father, but as an enemy."

Most magi were crazy about the Root.

"Hmm... if you reach the Root, your humanity will be severed... I don't think there's anyone who would be happy about that path. Manaka Sajyou is also a Reacher of the Root. Didn't she say she intentionally cut the connection so she could barely feel human sensations? Well, Manaka is active in this world too, but unless you want to discard your human senses, the Root should be considered dangerous."

At those words, Tokiomi was flustered.

"If one reaches the Root, shouldn't they be happy?"

"That would be the end for those who reached the Root even if it meant discarding the emotions and sensations we feel before being magi. At that end, would a magus who has lost their humanity, reaching a place humans cannot, truly feel joy?"

"That can't be..."

"And in the first place, I think sisters would hate fighting each other. Who would like fighting amongst family, humanly speaking."

My way of thinking was far from that of a magus, closer to an ordinary person who had just learned magecraft, but because my uncommon way of thinking was so different, Tokiomi despaired even more.

"I see... so I was ahead as a magus rather than as a father... I see."

"Well, I still hope you survive until the end. Sure, you weren't a good father to Sakura and Rin, but you have a chance to set things right, don't you?"

At that, Tokiomi just muttered.

"A chance, indeed. I have heard your opinion well."

"Okay, I'll be going now. Then, good luck..."

And so, I returned home with the Servants.

Medea consumed time and mana to completely remove the curse on the Grail, and Lancelot approached Tiamat with an atmosphere like he was about to commit adultery, so Artoria kicked him in the jewels with all her might.

In the process, Lancelot foamed at the mouth and dematerialized.

Lancer seemed to believe it was a curse, though he didn't know if it was an issue of birth.

10% of Tokiomi's funds was enormous.

The amount exceeded 1 trillion...

It was money raised by selling detached houses and stocks, but 1 trillion was truly amazing.

'Original Kirei, just how much do you like ruining things?'

If you don't have talent, you should just sell it and put it in a bank account, but I realized for the first time that being stubborn leads to bankruptcy.

And regarding Kirei's retrieval of the Command Spells and his ambiguous whereabouts, it was hard for me to understand, but I felt like we would meet again.

That guy isn't someone who dies easily, and since he killed his father, Risei Kotomine, I wonder what purpose his journey will begin for now.

"Who will manage the 1 trillion won?"

"I left such things to Agravain, so I have no talent for it."

"Except for fighting and receiving the love of women, I..."

When Artoria glared at Lancelot's words, Lancelot lowered his eyes as if tucking his tail.

It seems getting hit in the jewels was quite painful.

"It is the same for me, my lord."

"Umm... if we buy materials and sell them again, wouldn't that make money?"

"Mama doesn't know what property is!"

For now, I decided it was best to entrust the funds to Medea, who could handle production.

And so the Holy Grail War came to an end. There was Tokiomi's request, but personally, not because of his request, I let Rin and Sakura meet.

"Sakura!"

"Sister?"

Sakura's eyes trembled with hope, but when Rin hugged her, Sakura was bewildered by the suddenness.

"Sakura, I don't know what happened, but I know a lot has happened. Let's not be separated from now on."

"Sister, sob..."

That appearance might have been the joy of being saved from the pit of hell and meeting family, or perhaps the longing emotion amidst the pain.

"You can cry. Sakura."

"Waaaaaaah!"

Rin spoke maturely and accepted Sakura's tears, bringing a happy ending, but meanwhile, Kiritsugu arrived with bad timing.

It seemed he took out a gun, but due to the atmosphere, he was seen putting it away. However, except for the Servants and Tiamat, no one saw that scene.

"Hah, hah... for now, I'll ask independently. Either hand over the Grail. Or help me rescue Illya."

At those words, everyone's mood soured.

"Is the person asking for help pointing a gun?"

"Sorry, occupational hazard."

I wonder if that occupational hazard applies to a 1-year-old.

"Anyway, where are Irisviel and Maiya?"

"At the motel. If it weren't for Avalon that Irisviel gave me, I would have died of a heart attack."

It seems he avoided dying from sex by implanting Avalon in his heart.

Even so, seeing Kiritsugu drained of so much vitality, I felt pity.

No, whatever the ending, it was undeniable that he was pitiful.

As the target of two succubi, I didn't know how much more vitality Kiritsugu would be sucked of in the future, so I didn't know whether to call this pitiful or enviable.

"For now, I don't think Kiritsugu should decide alone. Shall we talk again when everyone is gathered?"

"Ah... for now, can I rest here? It doesn't matter if we call Irisviel and Maiya later, right?"

"What on earth happened?"

"Ahaha, I never imagined it would be such a scary day if both Irisviel and Maiya pounced on me seriously... Isn't this enough?"

At those words, I understood something.

That he was barely holding on with Avalon...

"Being drained until the end... do you understand this pain?"

"Stop, just rest."

"Yeah... thanks..."

And he collapsed on the floor.

I wondered if this person could even live a daily life anymore.

'Should I take Avalon later?'

Honestly, there was nothing to take right now, and it didn't matter if I took it 5 years later.

I have the all-rounder Medea, so if I want to increase my mana capacity? I can just drink a potion. If I want to learn magic? I can learn from Medea.

I'm not fighting monsters right now, and the Holy Grail War is about 10 years away, so I didn't need Avalon immediately.

"Women these days seem amazing."

Lancelot made an adulterous remark. In the process, when we (including Artoria) glared at him, Lancelot started coughing.

"Ahem..."

"Sir Lancelot? Are you doing that on purpose? Shouldn't you have just gotten that neutering surgery in Britain?"

"..."

Lancelot just bowed his head and remained silent.

Would a sinner talk back to a king?

Remaining silent was Lancelot's best option.
