Lara found out that her grandma had indeed been served a letter to vacate the property within a stipulated time. No wonder, her grandma couldn't stand it, the shock of it had resulted in her failed health.
Oh granny, she must have felt devastated by the news from the mortgage company. She couldn't bear it. She collapsed and hasn't recovered yet in the hospital.
But where is she going to go at the moment? The only friend she used to have was Tolu. But now, she is no longer a friend but a total stranger to her. She has no one to call at the moment.
She had been given a few minutes to move her belongings and that of her grandma out of the house. And she was given that privilege because she claimed her grandma was hospitalized and she's not aware of the mortgage company's notification.
Lara got in, picked a few items, especially her designs and her suitcase. She took her grandma's important belongings as well and stepped out.
Before her eyes, the lock of the house was changed and she can't go anywhere close to it anymore. She's stranded, empty and broke.
She's gone bankrupt and has nothing to pay for a hotel where she could put up. What will she do now? She was still confused when an idea came to her, she could keep her things with a neighbor and go get something to do.
What will she do now? She checked through her belongings, brought out her best clothing and decided to take them to an old store where she could give it off cheaply.
That's exactly what she did, she was able to raise money that can pay for her rent for two months. She promised to pay the rest of the bills as soon as she gets a job.
By the time Lara moved into her single apartment, it was dark. She hasn't seen grandma that evening. She rushed back to the hospital tired and fatigued. In just a matter of seconds, a few things have happened that changed the course of some certain things.
Lost her job, her home and grandma is sick. As Lara grudgingly arrived at the hospital, she didn't find her grandma on her bed anymore.
She went to ask and was informed that her grandma had given up. Lara was shocked,her body shivering. What is happening, she prefers death at this point.
She'd been orphaned at an early age. Granny raised her and now she's dead? Oh maybe she was jinxed to live a painful life at the end.
She's infertile for two years of her marriage. Her husband cheated on her with her supposed best friend. Her granny's house has been taken over by the mortgage company, her job is gone and now she's expecting to be pregnant.
Lara cried. The weight of the day's disappointment and rejection dawned afresh on her. She went to the morgue, where her granny's remains were kept and she sobbed.
Lara felt she had no use for living anymore. Divorced, jobless, no relative, bankrupt and has nothing to herself. What's the use of living? And what would happen if she was tested positive for pregnancy?
With help of friends of her granny and neighbors, she erected a mourning hall and the next day, granny was laid to rest.
Two days later, Lara returned to the hospital to be tested for pregnancy. For the first time since Dr JJ Smart suggested an artificial insemination,she wished that procedure was not successful.
She was told to wait a little longer if she wants to be attended to by Dr JJ Smart otherwise, there were other doctors who could attend to her.
Lara said she preferred to wait for as long as it would take for Dr JJ Smart to be through. She ended up waiting for another forty minutes before eventually, her favourite doctor stepped out.
"I'm sorry Lara, I learnt you've been waiting for a while now" she said, holding hands with her and walking her into the obstetrics department.
As much as Dr JJ Smart tried to appear cheerful, Lara felt something was off about her, but chose not to ask her questions.
As Lara followed Dr JJ Smart to her office, she saw a familiar silhouette. She paused and glanced at him, against the dimming glass that separated the offices.
Dr JJ Smart followed her gaze and said "that's the CEO of this hospital and he's here to decide my fate" she informed flippantly. It's better that she tells Lara, in case she doesn't meet her in the hospital during her next visit.
"That should be Curtis Rodney," Lara stuttered. He can't possibly be the boss of the employees of that hospital. He can't be everywhere like air.
"Yes, he's the one. Something important to him got missing in my custody and I can't trace it anywhere. He is to decide if I would remain a medical doctor or have my professional license revoked.." she explained.
Lara was alarmed. Will he bring tears to Dr JJ Smart like he did to her? Was he destined to cause people pain simply because he was said to be the youngest rich dude in Michigan?
"What's so important that might cost you your professional license? Your years of study and practice will go down the drain because you lost something important to him?
Did you kill his child by using the wrong prescription or paralyzed his mother by giving her the wrong medication?" Lara questioned, unable to hide her resentment for the dude.
"It's almost the same scenario" Dr JJ Smart replied. Letting his sperm vial get lost and missing was the same as killing his child. There isn't any difference between them.
No explanation was logical or professional enough to vindicate her. And because he is a celebrity, he is worried sick to find out who stole it from the bank.
He probably was trying to abort a future scandal and blackmail. But she doesn't understand what happened. Her assistant had closed early that day. She was alone but something just went amiss.
Lara was now confused. If what Dr JJ did to him was on the scale as killing his child, she doesn't know what to say again. She laid on the examination bed as various tests were carried out on her.
Lara didn't realise that tears had run down the sides of her eyes until Dr JJ Smart asked "Aren't you happy and optimistic for the best outcome?"
She saw the tears. She thought it was those of joy but her face carries sorrow and pain. The two contradict each other and her only conclusion is that she's afraid of something.
"I don't wish it to be successful anymore Dr. I wish I hadn't started this at this time" Lara opened up. She sniffled and closed her tears, trying to fight back the tears.
