Chapter 6 - Hired

Like he glared at her that day, he was doing worse than that at the moment. His gaze was cold, piercing and intimidating. That temporarily, Lara lost her courage and felt timid instantly.

Now, not only were her palms sweaty, her temple were covered in beads of sweat. Who said she should talk rashly that day, now, her loose tongue would be responsible for her rejection.

She swallowed hard and quickly looked away. Still the man's gaze was on her, she wasn't glancing at him again but she could feel the heat of his piercing gaze on her.

She couldn't answer any single question she was asked. Her tongue seemed to be glued to the roof of her mouth and soon she was told to leave.

Curtis Rodney, couldn't take his gaze away from the woman when she stepped in. He hates the sight of her, coming before him and wants to be employed by him.

But watching how sweaty and fidgeting she got, he wondered if she was still the same woman who went loose and tongue-lashed him and his men barely a week ago.

Standing before her interviewers, she became a dump ass. Was she scared of him suddenly or was she affected by stage fright?

Anyways, he's a vengeful person. He would ensure he made her pay for what she said to him rudely. Until he brings her before his feet, not only to pick up his phone and papers, but to kiss his feet, he wouldn't be pacified.

As Lara went out of the room, she hurried her steps towards the elevator. She'd never known until a few moments ago that a cold freezing gaze can melt someone's composure so easily like ice.

That man, who is he? He didn't say anything and yet,his influence dominated everyone and his aura was intimidating. How can he stare at her like he was going to X-ray her soul and body.

She'd failed the interview no doubt. She was invited to be interviewed and yet, when she came before her employers, she couldn't utter a word. Someone's gaze made her lose her courage and made her unable to speak.

Hoping to get hired by this company, it's a capital NO. She has to keep applying to other companies and hope that the ones she'd sent before, she got lucky to be invited for an interview.

At least since this ice cold man works in this company, he cannot work everywhere. She needs not to worry about meeting him anywhere else.

She shut herself in her room that night and kept sending applications when an email popped up on her phone. She opened it and was surprised at the message that her gaze fell upon.

She'd been hired by the millennium fashion company as a junior designer. She blinked her eyes several times to be sure that's the real content of the email she received and not merely her mind working.

She was to be at the company the next morning to get her appointment letter. What is happening, hadn't these people made a mistake by sending the email to her?

They probably wanted to send it to someone else but mistakenly sent it to her instead. She had rated herself after she left the interviewers without a word and knew she failed gallantly.

What is she going to do now? She probably should accept this positive mistake they've made by sending the email to her and return to that company the next morning.

If they told her it's a mistake, she'll walk away unashamed, they were the one who sent her the email. But if they value the reputation of their company, they won't have an option than to hire her eventually.

And that's what Lara did. The next morning she arrived at the company and was directed to the office of the employment officer. She was offered a seat, and she waited.

Lara was ruminating on the response she would get if she was told it was an error, she wasn't among the selected ones that had been hired.

"Accept my hearty congratulations Miss Edmund" she heard the officer chimed, smiling broadly at her. He is a man in his mid forties, respected and kind.

"Mm.."Lara grunted and stood up, taking the man's hands before suppressing her awkward response "Thank you sir" she appreciated.

She was shown her department in the large establishment. From what she's heard, the giant's structure that houses the company has two other companies situated inside, everyone at their department and company.

Most of the employers don't even know each other as working under the same large umbrella until sometimes, at the end of the year dinner and cocktail party, they were fortunate to stumble on each other.

There are heads and managers in the various companies and departments respectively but there's a CEO overseeing them all.

Lara was shown the organogram of the company and she nodded. She's gotten enough orientation and was told to resume fully the next day.

Lara was happy. She would inform her granny that she's got a job. Now,she would be responsible for the bills of them both and grandma doesn't have to bother herself anymore, at all.

But when she arrived home, grandma was on the floor, she'd fainted. Lara was scared beyond words, what is wrong with her grandma?

As she rushed her grandma to the hospital, she was informed that her grandma was having a terminal illness and she didn't have much time left.

Lara was broken. A terminal illness and she was not having much time left? Why hasn't grandma made a mention of it to her all these while?

And as it is, her grandma has fallen into a coma and it's either she wakes up paralysed and useless or passes on from her unconscious state and never sees the light of this life anymore.

Lara doesn't want any of the above to happen to her grandma but then, when she was asked to make a deposit to the hospital for her grandma's treatment, she realised how penniless she was.

What will she do now, sell her car, the only assets she's got or let her grandma die?
