Money or Zombies? Looking at the scattered zombies on the ground, the Seven Fortune-Seeking Men decided that money was more important; they had already killed a bunch of zombies.
These things were slow and sluggish; with a quick reaction, they could easily eliminate them with their spears and other weapons.
The opportunity to make a fortune was getting closer.
"These cars... any one of them could fetch tens of thousands if we took them back," someone said, looking at a very cool Hummer with obvious envy.
"Hmph, we wouldn't keep them anyway. Look at that jewelry store," the gambler said, his eyes darting around. He spotted a jewelry store and couldn't resist the urge to make money.
The jewelry store was in disarray, clearly someone had been there. The Seven Fortune-Seeking Men couldn't help but curse. Someone tried to smash a relatively intact display case, but the gambler forcefully pushed him away.
"Are you stupid? Be careful not to attract those zombies! There's no one here. We'll drive normally, don't mistake us for robbers."
The gambler said, picking up a bloodstained necklace from the ground. After carefully examining it to make sure it was genuine, he stuffed it into his pocket.
The clothes they chose all had many pockets, and they had also found backpacks and other 'equipment' along the way.
"That makes no difference, right?" The person who was pushed aside grumbled unhappily, rummaging through the container and grabbing a handful of gold necklaces, revealing a satisfied expression. When people have money, everyone's temper is much better.
"In a place with no security, we're just picking it up!" The gambler argued, stuffing a lot of things into his backpack before glancing around: "Alright, let's go to the next place."
Inside the safe house, Thorn pushed the checked magazines into his weapon compartment and pressed his pistol into its holster: "You still have a chance to back out. We only have five days at most."
Today is the 11th, and the nuclear bomb will fall on the 16th. No matter how they plan, at most they can only stay on time, and even then, they might have to leave earlier to escape the nuclear attack range.
"We, the Five Salvation Heroes, will definitely succeed." Bai Mu fiddled with his MP5 submachine gun, two Uzis slung at his waist, and an XM1014 shotgun on his back. Thorn's side had an abundance of weapons.
His explanation was that there weren't many survivors left in the city, and once they found the right place, resupplying their weapons would be easy; there were plenty of gun shops here.
However, Thorn hesitated, looking at Bai Mu's equipment: "Although your choice is excellent… but… never mind."
Seeing Bai Mu stuff two more pistols into his leg holsters, Thorn shook his head. He liked what the young man liked; he liked energetic and dynamic young people.
Besides, Bai Mu's choice of firearms wasn't wrong. The area they were going to operate in didn't need assault rifles that were unsuitable for the environment.
The zombies, affected by the virus, were sharp-tongued but not physically strong; submachine guns were powerful enough to take them down, and their ammunition was universal.
Shotguns… nothing much to say, high power in close combat, and a sufficient attack area; Bai Mu, being strong and robust, had no problem carrying one.
Seeing Bai Mu's restless gaze, Thor quickly said, "Actually, I have more than one safe house, and there are quite a few supply points in the city. You don't need to carry so much stuff. Put down those burdens!"
Bai Mu regretfully put the two grenades back; he already had two on him.
"Phew~" Thor breathed a sigh of relief, then looked at Matt and the others, his eye twitching slightly: "Let's go!"
They were going to find a vaccine, not to slaughter zombies.
But these people were acting like they had some kind of fear of insufficient firepower—no, like they'd never seen a gun before.
"Actually, this is only the second time I've used a gun, and I'm afraid I won't be able to aim accurately," Bai Mu explained in the garage.
Thor hummed in agreement: "The second time?"
"The first time was when I was in school."
"You used a gun in school!?" Matt and the others' ears perked up. What kind of school required guns?
Rota City was considered an advanced city, but the education rate was still not very high, and Matt had never heard of such a thing before.
"I used it once during military training." Bai Mu touched the gun facing the car window. How could he possibly get his hands on such good stuff during military training, let alone carry a huge amount of ammunition?
"What school do you go to?" Thorn, driving, asked curiously.
"Just a regular school."
"Then your area has a strong sense of martial spirit. Be careful, don't fire unless absolutely necessary. If you encounter zombies you can't avoid, and there aren't many, use close combat to finish them off."
Thorn glanced at Bai Mu's equipment. He was satisfied with Bai Mu's weapon choices; the submachine guns weren't too loud, and they could be fitted with silencers, which would greatly reduce their attraction to the zombies.
As for Matt and the others in the back seat, they'd have to make do. He didn't have much time left, and having more people would help him clear the labs faster and find the vaccine he was looking for.
"Look!" In a gold shop, the seven members of the Fortune Seven, helplessly clutching their safes, watched a car drive by and saw familiar faces in it.
Affected by the sound of the car, some zombies in the distance swayed and wandered towards the sound.
The gambler's expression changed: "Damn it, forget about that unopenable box, let's go somewhere else!"
The seven members of the Fortune Seven were still cautious. They quickly left the gold shop and looked down at the street. The number of zombies, which had been small, was increasing, and their scalps tingled.
"Let's go to another street!"
The gambler decided. When giving them the map, Thorn had marked some landmarks for them. There were some landmark buildings in Bear City.
Identifying those buildings and understanding the map wasn't difficult, but each rendezvous point was far away. Walking, coupled with the interference of these zombies, would make it impossible to reach them within a day.

As for the car, the Seven Fortune-Seekers planned to find a bookstore to see if they could find a way to drive.
On Bai Mu's side, after driving to a collapsed section, Thorn stopped: "We'll be walking from here on out. You guys could have brought less stuff."
"I've already been very restrained,"
Bai Mu patted his backpack, indicating that if it weren't for controlling his stamina, he could have brought more.
"We won't hold you back," Matt added, also feeling he hadn't brought enough equipment.
"The zombies are starting to come," Gunslinger Eller looked into the distance. Besides liking the guns, he also really liked the binoculars Thorn had placed there.
He'd used them many times along the way to look at the distant 'scenery,' but the more he looked, the more regrettable it
became. This city was once prosperous, yet it had been destroyed by that so-called bio-virus. Eller's understanding of viruses was mostly limited to the fact that they made people sick; he never imagined that such a thing could turn humans into tireless, fearless monsters.
"Stay close to me. Unless it's an emergency, don't fire unless I do. Zombies have incredibly sensitive hearing. Don't be fooled by their slow movements at a distance; once they get close enough to detect you, they can unleash tremendous speed."
Thorn gave a final reminder before leading the way.
Their destination was a laboratory hidden beneath the pharmacy. There were quite a few zombies in the pharmacy, and Thorn handled them with practiced ease, wielding a machete with impressive power.
Zombies have a reaction time before they fully react; they're still slow until then, at which point their explosive power becomes terrifying.
Thorn explained that loud noises and the smell of fresh blood stimulate zombies, causing them to transition from a regenerative state to a berserk state. He
cleaved open a zombie's skull with a single blow, and Bai Mu reminisced about the axe he'd used not long ago.
The group quickly cleared the zombies from the pharmacy and found the laboratory entrance. Thorn used a decryption device of unknown origin to crack the entrance, preventing them from physically opening it.
Bai Mu felt a pang of regret for the explosives he had brought.
He had prepared specifically for this moment.
Opening the laboratory entrance, Thorn rushed in first. A few soft gunshots rang out, and the zombies wandering inside were killed.
Bai Mu then used two iron bars he had picked up outside to wed the laboratory entrance.
Matt was taken aback: "You're so experienced?"
"I've seen this in many horror stories; the door suddenly slams shut when you enter," Bai Mu explained seriously.
Matt nodded: "That makes sense."
After confirming the door was secure, the group followed into the laboratory. The laboratory was large, but there seemed to be no living people inside.
Just as someone was about to speak, a rapid series of thumping sounds rang out.
"Watch out!" Thorn shouted a warning to those around him, raising his gun and aiming it at the passage ahead. When the thumping reached a certain volume, Thorn pulled the trigger without hesitation.
A swift figure, after a few spurts of blood, dodged the subsequent bullets and crashed into Thorn.
Thorn slid backward a short distance, his face flushed.
Bai Mu realized that this sewer corpse wasn't an ordinary person either. As Thor and the monster grappled and rolled on the ground, Bai Mu, holding the monster's neck, grabbed two Uzis and started firing at close range.
"I'll help you!"
He couldn't aim accurately from a distance; this distance wouldn't allow him to hit a friendly firefight.
The monster, being attacked at point-blank range, convulsed violently. In the instant it lost its strength, Thor flung it away: "Enough!"
Thor breathed a sigh of relief: "I appreciate it, but don't do it that way next time. At least wait until I kick this thing away before you shoot!"
He looked at the wound on his arm; the monster's claws were sharp, and he had inevitably been injured during the struggle.
Cohen calmly cleaned his wounds: "I was bitten by a zombie before, but I didn't turn into one of these monsters."
He showed the scar left after his bite healed.
Bai Mu believed him, but Matt and the others weren't entirely convinced: "Even so, I think we should keep our distance for now."
"The smart thing to do is leave it at that." Thorn, too lazy to explain further, casually bandaged his wounds, picked up his fallen weapon, and walked over to the monster.
The monster's body was covered in a layer of black keratin, clearly indicating it was an elite zombie.
This made Thorn's mood worse. He hadn't encountered anything like this when searching other labs; the depths of the lab were a mess, with few zombies but many remains.
From this, Bai Mu gleaned the information that the mutated zombie had a huge appetite… and an increased difficulty level.
