"What?" I blinked, caught off guard.
Grey pressed on, "We built this company from the ground up together, and there are countless employees you've worked alongside. Can you honestly stand by and watch the company crumble while those people you care about lose their jobs?"
I fired back instantly, "Grey, if your company's failing and people need to be let go, that's on you. Don't try to guilt-trip me into fixing your mess."
I wasn't done. "Besides, wasn't it you who told every reporter that you single-handedly founded the company? What happened to that story? Now suddenly we're partners?"
A flush crept up Grey's neck. He'd always seen the company as his baby, honestly believing my contributions were so basic that any decent project manager could've done the same work. But now, doubt was creeping in.
Especially since landing the island development deal meant he desperately needed my upgraded patent.
