The days turned into weeks, and Zen's frustration with Alice's secrecy grew. He felt like he was getting closer to her, but she was still holding back. He decided to confront her, to demand answers about what was going on.
One evening, as they walked through the academy's gardens, Zen turned to Alice and said, "We need to talk."
Alice's eyes narrowed slightly, but she nodded. "Okay, what's on your mind?"
Zen took a deep breath. "I know you're hiding something from me," he said, his voice firm but controlled. "And I want to know what it is."
Alice's expression didn't change, but Zen saw a flicker of emotion in her eyes. She took a step closer to him, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Zen, I...I don't know if I can tell you," she said, her words laced with uncertainty.
Zen's heart pounded in his chest. He could see the fear and vulnerability in her eyes, and he knew that whatever she was hiding, it was big.
"Alice, I care about you," Zen said, his voice softening. "Whatever it is, I'll help you. Just tell me the truth."
Alice's eyes searched his, and for a moment, Zen thought he saw a glimmer of hope. Then, she took a deep breath and began to speak.
"Zen, I'm not who you think I am," she said, her voice trembling. "I'm...I'm not even human."
Zen's mind reeled as he processed her words. What did she mean? But before he could ask any questions, Alice turned and ran, disappearing into the shadows.
Zen stood there, stunned, wondering what had just happened. What did Alice mean? And why had she run?
