Chapter 79 - Chapter 79: The simulation. II

One of Kenneth's fondest memories was the watch duty he was left in charge of back in his academy days.

It was the moment he'd grown closer to Amir.

The two hadn't always gotten along, at least at first. 

Amir was loud, bold, and always engaged. He was the kind of person who lit up a room and drew people in. His complete opposite.

He'd tried to reach out to him on several occasions, but the young man had always been stubborn. He didn't want to approach people or have them get close. 

There were times Kenneth was convinced he was unfit for human relationships, and Amir enforced this idea on their first night watch. 

"You're really hard to like, you know that?" He'd said after Kenneth had ignored a very simple question he'd asked him:

"Why did you join the military?"

It was a simple enough question, but Kenneth had found it dumb, largely because it should've been an obvious answer.

Because he had to. Because he had no choice.
