Chapter 1 - Centre of Attraction

10:00pm, a huge party was going on at the Montesino mansion. It was full of fancy lights, food and drinks, classy and expensive guests plus an outstanding decoration, after all, the Montesino family was loaded and had more than enough money to spend. One of the only two daughters, Irene, the elder daughter was celebrating her birthday. Everyone was downstairs but Tara, the youngest daughter was still upstairs in her bedroom.

She wasn't interested and couldn't care less about the big party going on downstairs. She wasn't invited to begin with despite organizing everything and being a part of the family. She was busy doing her makeup, styling her long beautiful silky brunette hair, dressing up in a black off shoulder floral dress and silver colored heels, lastly her jewelry plus her purse and she was all done, ready and set to leave.

She went downstairs and everyone's eyes were off Irene upstage and on her. Just the way she walked was impressive, her remarkable beauty made people turn their heads just to see her. She was a center of attraction. It was a white themed party but she was the only one in black, she knew it and she loved it. That was her style.

"Wow, she's so beautiful"

"She's so gorgeous"

"She's so beautiful" she heard the people she passed by say as she walked towards the entrance. She was leaving after stealing the spotlight from her sister like she always does.

"Sorry not sorry Irene, it's nothing personal, but it's been an honor not to be invited" she said to herself as she turned to her sister's direction. Irene was on the verge of bursting, anger filled her but Tara did it intentionally. She grabbed a glass of champagne from one of the trays of the available waiters.

"A toast to my sister! Happy birthday!" She shouted as she she had the audience. All the guests raised their glasses and made a toast.

The environment became more lively than it was before, thanks to Tara.

"And goodbye...." Tara added before she gulped down her drink and left for the parking lot. She pulled out her keys from her purse as she headed towards her black sports car. Black was her favorite colour.

"I don't need a driver and a bodyguard" she said in an orderly voice to the six men dressed in all black walking towards her.

"Forgive us ma'am, but we can't disobey tour father's orders to keep you safe" one of them said.

"Oh please ... I'm not a kid anymore. Just back off and I'll pay you three times more of what my dad is paying you."She replied..

Her father wasn't around at the moment, it was only her mom, Irene and her. Unlike her mother who cared more about Irene, her father kept on obsessing over keeping hus favourite princess safe while he wasn't around, due to how reckless she was with her life. Sending more and more elite bodyguards everyday but the stubborn princess kept on paying them off.

"Do we have a deal?" she asked and they were left speechless.

"I thought so" Tara entered her car and drive off like some pysco.

"Thank you for your concern dad but I don't need it" she phoned her dad immediately and told him

"You paid them off, didn't you?" Her dad on the other line asked.

"You really know me so well dad but please, trust me, I can take care of myself quite well and you know that. I'm not so little anymore" she replied.

"You just turned 24, you're still a little girl in my eyes, I'll always be here to love you and protect you," her dad said.

"Ok...if it will make you any happier, I'll try to find myself a capable bodyguard on my own without your help, stop sending me bodyguards and please let me do it" she pleaded with her dad

" Ok. I'll let you, but I'll have to first meet him.. before you hire him to protect you" her dad replied.

"Ok dad bye " she hang up. She was on her way to another function, an award function, and she'd arrived at her destination.

A red carpet was at tye entrance, every woman was accompanied by a man, a lover, a boyfriend, a fiance,, husband, you name it but Tara didn't need a man by her side..She was mkre than enough for herself and besides, she didn't trust men that much.

"A photo ma'am"

"A photo please" The photographers and paparazzi were dying to take photos of her, all the way inside to the VIP area Infront.

"Are you ready to lose Tara?" Her high school enemy Dana she hadn't met in a very long time asked, as soon as she reached the VIP seats.

"Don't talk too much Dana,, you might regret it later" Tara simply replied as she took her seat.

"You. ..." She cut her off.

"Unless you want me to humiliate you and drag you and your absurd outfit out of here, you'd better shut up and sit down" she raised the tone in her voice. She was dead serious, no time for Dana's annoying fights.

"And now for the moment we've all been waiting for... " The speaker upstage began.

"The nominees for this year's best elite business woman...Dana Jruke, Lieye Sasha and Tara Montesino..and the award goes to...."
