"I see the head" Chief Inti said. I felt as if I was being torn apart. Gasping for breath I squeezed a wooded bar that they had handed me.
When I had started going into labor, we had found that Lindi was also going into labor. Instead of bringing Lindi over, Gine had to go get some of the other women. Two to help Lindi and another to come and help me.
"Now push, Kami," she said. The other woman was near by holding clean scrap of fabric for as soon as the baby came out.
I bore down hard and I felt the rush of relief when the head and shoulders cleared and the baby was out. But I was still experiencing contractions.
"It's another boy!" Chief Inti said loudly, handing the child over to the other woman. Turning back to me she looked down in surprise.
"There is another head!" Crouching down in front of me she helped me adjust as I began pushing again. Soon the other child was out and being cleaned.
