Cornelia's POV
"Touch his heart," Colter said through gritted teeth. I could see the resistance in the tight clench of his jaw and the tension in his shoulders, but I knew his love for David had won out. "You need to reach him through your bond. But if he loses control completely-"
"He won't lose control," I whispered, already turning toward the man I loved.
"Stay alert, Cornelia," Caleb's voice carried a gentleness that made my chest tight. "If David harmed you while like this, it would destroy him."
I gave a small nod without looking back, drawing in a shaky breath. Standing there, facing the creature that David had become, I repeated like a mantra that he would never hurt me. Not really. Not the David I knew.
