Jessica's POV
The sting of being excluded hit me hard as I posed that question, my gaze fixed on Caleb, hoping for even the briefest acknowledgment. But he remained distant, leaving Paisley to provide the answer I desperately needed.
"I believed Bonita would confess to what she'd done," Paisley's words carried a sharp edge of disappointment. I forced myself to tear my attention away from Caleb and focus on her. "Instead, she gave us nothing useful. Just endless chatter. Somehow, she figured out I was recording everything."
"She's more cunning than we gave her credit for," Caleb muttered darkly. "We made a mistake by not taking her seriously enough."
"I never made that mistake," I said quietly, staring at the elevator doors without really seeing them. "Not once. Bonita always keeps something hidden. She never runs out of moves to make."
"We didn't expect her to go to these lengths," Paisley whispered.
