Spring semester hit like a freight train carrying textbooks.
"I forgot how exhausting the first week back is," I groaned, face-planted on our bed while Kai attempted to organize his engineering materials on the desk we now had to share more strategically.
"You say that every semester."
"Because it's true every semester." I rolled over. "How do you look so put together right now?"
"Years of practice pretending I have my life together." He glanced at his color-coded schedule. "Also, I made a new system. Color-coded by urgency, difficulty, and time commitment."
"You're insane."
"You say that like it's news."
Maya appeared in the doorway, backpack slung over one shoulder, looking far too awake for seven in the morning. "Can we get breakfast sandwiches on the way to school? Please?"
"We had breakfast," I reminded her.
"That was first breakfast. I'm talking about second breakfast."
Kai laughed. "Did you just quote Lord of the Rings at us?"
