The Grove is behind them now, but the Coil's blessing was only a key — not the gate.
They pass into the Serpent walk Hollows, a hidden path said to wind in circles unless the forest wants you to arrive.
Luo Fen (quietly):
"We are not the first to be summoned. But we might be the first in a generation the Oracle does not reject."
Feng Xian (gripping the Flame Brand's hilt):
"And if it does?"
She doesn't answer.
🜂 They arrive at the Ourocleft Cavern — a vast subterranean dome where bioluminescent roots hang like chandeliers, and an inner sanctum pulses like a breathing heart. Fossilized serpent bones spiral into the walls.
At the center, coiled around a raised dais of scale-stone, lies the Serpent Oracle — not a beast, but a spirit-construct of the Isles' ancestral will, formed from jade marrow, silken ghost-flesh, and eyes that reflect futures unchosen.
It speaks not in words, but in visions.
Feng Xian and Luo Fen step forward. The air thickens. The Oracle's tongue, made of spirit-thread, flickers across them both — testing essence, will, memory.
Suddenly — visions surge:
Feng Xian sees a sea of embers, a thousand crowns, and a hollow sun watching him drown.
Luo Fen sees herself bleeding in the Grove, her kin watching in silence as she's turned to stone… or serpent.
They drop to their knees — the Oracle's voice speaks into their minds like thunder underwater:
Oracle:
"Flame kind. Inbound. You are threads woven into a knot of storm."
"What you seek lies beneath the Isles… but so too does that which seeks you."
Then a choice appears before them — a twin-coiled path formed of jade and bone:
The Vow Path — To swear themselves to the Isles' protection, and in return gain the Blessing of Scale bound Pact, letting them draw on the Isles' spirits in battle.
The Severed Path — To take only knowledge, but remain unbound — warned that this leaves them vulnerable to what stirs beneath.
Feng Xian looks to Luo Fen.
Luo Fen:
"I will walk the Vow Path. My blood belongs to the Isles."
Feng Xian pauses — heart torn between duty and freedom.
