Chapter 3 - Teruim Nexus

Getting to the subway station, Mark quickly bought a ticket and sat on a bench as he waited for the train to arrive. Since it was going to take a while, he pulled out his phone from his pocket and scrolled to his favorite browser, FRAT.

The app loaded within split seconds. He went to the search button and typed in WWW.TerraNexus.com. The results popped up instantly, and he clicked the sign in button.

The page had two options: signing in with his username and password, or making use of biometrics. The first option was a no-go for him given the absurd number of hackers that existed in his time. The risk was staggering. There was the possibility of your phone getting hacked from a newly installed application. The hacker would then infiltrate the phone security and place a spy bug to keep track of the user's movements. If such a thing was happening to him and he entered his password, the hacker would quickly seize control of his account. That was by far the worst case scenario he had imagined.

Now for the second option, which was the biometric lock. Luckily for him, his phone had a built-in fingerprint scanner which he originally used when creating his game account. The possibility of a hacker taking control of his account from the biometric lock was quite slim to none, so it was the safest bet and what he was opting for obviously.

He tapped the biometric option then placed his hand on his fingerprint scanner. The page loaded and he was redirected. Now he could see his character information.

Name: Endless.

Class: Thief/Assassin.

Age: 20.

Level: 3.

He tapped the toggle button by the top corner of the screen, and more options surfaced. But all these options did not matter to him. His main concern was the INVENTORY option. He tapped it and the evidence of his ill-gotten wealth surfaced.

[All items in auction have been sold out]

[Total amount realized: 100,000 gold coins]

He almost spat blood at the sight of this. One hundred thousand gold coins? He was set for life. In fact, he no longer needed to work for anything for as long as he lived. This was because the currency of the game had an immense value in real life.

A hundred copper coins equaled one silver coin, and a hundred silver coins equaled one gold coin, and a hundred gold coins equaled one platinum coin. Invariably, he had a staggering one thousand platinum coins. That much was outrageous.

Now a gold coin equaled a hundred dollars, and that likewise meant one platinum coin equaled ten thousand dollars. That was the reason he was almost going crazy at the sight of such wealth. He had just made ten freaking million dollars.

But realizing he was beginning to garner attention with his sudden outburst, he shamefully got back to his bench and searched for something else.

He had, prior to this moment, placed all the loot he acquired from Lex at the online auction house with an anonymous name. But there was something strange that happened before he logged out. A certain book he got from Lex got stuck in his inventory. He tried his possible best to get it out but the book remained stubbornly unyielding, so he just left things as they were and logged out.

He saw the book in his inventory once more, then tapped the inspect button to get a close up view. The book was not anything fancy per se, so he had no idea why Lex was so desperate to stop him from stealing it. It was just a red hardcover book with a golden frame at every one of its edges.

After a while, the train arrived and he logged out from his account and slid the phone into his pocket. He got in and quickly found a comfortable space to sit in. There was no way he was standing when he was one of the first people to get in. The train waited for about ten minutes more before the door shut close and it zoomed off.
