"So what are the benefits of being trained by two commanders at once?" Shota stood a little straighter when he asked the question.
His eyes shone with real interest for the first time since entering the underground base.
'Being an anbu commanders means that they definitely are strong and skilled. They could teach me quite a number of jutsus and maybe a forbidden jutsu?' Shota thought
Sandworm noticed and gave a small nod. "Since you only seem to care about benefits, let me explain them clearly."
"First benefit. You will not belong to any fixed team. You are in two separate divisions, so no permanent squad for you. Many recruits waste months training with teammates who die on the next mission or get moved to another division. That will not happen to you."
Shota liked the sound of that. Solo missions meant he could use Erasure at full power without anyone from the village watching. No teammate would ever learn the exact limits of his eyes. He pictured himself finishing a job in one hour, then finding a nice shady tree and sleeping for the rest of the week. He could blame the delay on the target being "very fast" or "hiding well." Perfect lazy plan.
'Well and I would not have to bear the loss of more of my teammates. Not gonna lie but that damn thing hurts.' Shota remembered his mission to eliminate Kurogiri Testu where most of his team had died.
But at the prospect of sleeping after his missions without any one knowing, a tiny smile crept onto his face.
Sandworm saw the smile and continued quickly. "This does not mean you get complete freedom. Every mission has a deadline. If you do not finish or return by that date, your status changes to missing. A search team will come looking for you. Do not test it."
Shota's smile vanished. His shoulders dropped.
Sandworm kept going. "Second benefit. Double pay. You work for two divisions, so you receive two salaries and two mission bonuses."
Shota shrugged inside his head. Double salary was nice, but they still took eighty percent of every bounty. He would still come out behind compared to hunting alone.
'And I have not even got the time to spend my mission money from the S rank mission. And I only have to buy one of those beds that are as soft as cloud. I don't really want anything else. Money is not as valuable in this world for a shinobi as it was for people on Earth.' Gladion thought
Sandworm saw the lack of excitement and moved to the next point. "The Kazekage knows you have no mentor and very few jutsu. For every five missions you complete successfully, you may choose one B-rank jutsu from the ANBU catalogue. The ANBU catalogue is very different from the normal shinobi one. Many jutsu inside are secret and not available to regular ninja."
Shota's eyes went wide. That was real treasure. More jutsu meant more options in battle. More options meant he could end fights faster and go back to napping sooner. Excellent.
Sandworm allowed himself a small smile. "Now the best part. Training under two commanders."
He turned to the younger man. "I will teach you everything about hunting missing-nin. Tracking across any terrain. Setting ambushes that cannot be escaped. Building traps that kill or capture. Reading signs left by a running shinobi. You will learn how to find anyone, anywhere."
Then he looked at Spider. "This one will teach assassination skills. Poison making and building your resistance to poisons. Hidden weapons training. Stealth that is the bread and butter of any assassin. He would teach you how to kill with a single strike without leaving any trace."
Spider stayed quiet, but his eyes looked proud.
Sandworm continued. "You will also learn personal jutsu and secret techniques from both of us. Things we created ourselves. Things we do not teach normal recruits."
'Now that's what I am talking about. Secret Jutsus now that's what I want. I wonder what secret Jutsus they have. I don't remember Suna having any extraordinary jutsus. Those wind fan jobs are useless since I don't use it and the same is for puppettering. Let's hope that they have some jutsus that just have very high requirements to learn and I qualify for each of them.' Shota thought
He placed a hand on Spider's shoulder. "Spider is in charge of your daily training for this week. I will take over your training for the next week and it would continue afterwards in the similar manner. Spider may look young, but he is the best assassin in Sunagakure. Maybe the best in all five great villages. Respect him."
Spider gave a tiny nod.
Sandworm's smile grew wider. "He is also a former student of one of the Honoured Siblings, Lady Chiyo."
Spider stiffened slightly at the name, but he did not speak.
Shota's mouth fell open. Grandma Chiyo had taught this quiet man everything he knew.
The same Grandma Chiyo who once held Shota's tiny hands and showed him how to make puppet strings dance with wind. The same Grandma Chiyo who disappeared from his life when Sasori left the village.
'Grandma Chiyo taught him… woah. He should be a pretty terrifying shinobi.' Shota looked at spider in awe.
