Chapter 7 - Eat up

Seeing the other party's conflicted expression, and combining it with the memories he had previously retrieved from his brain using psionic exploration, although somewhat difficult to understand, Noah still tentatively spoke.

"Eat, soldier! This is the God-Emperor's grace to you. The God-Emperor wants you to eat, not to soothe the machine spirit here."

"The machine spirit is not displeased; the machine spirit is greatly pleased."

Noah always felt like the leader of a pyramid scheme, with his words full of religious meaning.

This was a solution his super brain had temporarily put together for him. Although he didn't know who this God-Emperor was, it should be some kind of god.

This was Noah's only thought.

The Terran Federation also had gods.

After all, for the people of the entire federation, once they were well-fed and well-rested, they would sometimes pursue spiritual things.

At such times, the existence of gods was necessary.

Within the Terran Federation, some powerful psionics would be deified by the federation.

After deification, they would become public servants, and they would receive better treatment.

Generally, after being deified, their psionic cultivation speed would greatly increase, which was one of the benefits of deification.

However, they had to meet the demands of the people, provided they complied with federal laws and were within their capabilities.

If they couldn't meet the demands of the common people, even when it was within their capabilities and allowed by federal law, then without a doubt, this god would be eliminated.

At that point, if no one believed in them, the federation would naturally revoke the god's existence.

The federation did not impose too many restrictions on gods; alien gods were also acceptable.

However, if they couldn't survive on federation soil, that was their own problem.

After all, the Terran Federation never supported idle gods.

Those who failed to meet their KPI assessments would naturally be stripped of their deified status and replaced by others who wished to serve the people.

Only gods registered with the federation could promote their religions within the federation.

But if an unregistered god, or one whose qualifications had been revoked, dared to promote their religion, they would face pursuit by the federation's Ministry of Justice.

If a god thought that being a god made them strong enough, they could try to see if the federation could utterly extinguish their divine soul and make them disappear from this world.

The federation's Psionic Legion specialized in dealing with all sorts of gods who dared to violate federal regulations.

If the Psionic Legion couldn't resolve it, then the Battle Sisters and Valkyries would jointly intervene, and in the end, it might even lead to the intervention of the Federal Custodians.

So, Noah had heard of and encountered such beings as gods before, as these guys were essentially just people with more powerful psionic abilities.

Moreover, many gods couldn't even be considered human.

But no matter what, for all federal citizens, the concept of a god generally meant a public servant of the people.

"We will only believe in you if you are useful; if you are not, then you will be replaced."

However, based on the memories he had obtained from the soldier's mind, it felt like the god here was different.

But even though he didn't know why it was different, the same principle applied: Noah didn't understand, but he chose to respect and utilize it.

Without a doubt, Noah's words were successful. Upon hearing Noah's words, the soldier stopped his actions and then tremblingly picked up the spoon beside him.

Originally, chopsticks should have been there.

However, considering that the soldier might not know how to use them, Noah still provided him with a spoon.

After all, everyone knows how to use a spoon; it's incredibly simple.

The soldier tremblingly scooped a spoonful of delicious food with the spoon, disrupting the meal's delicate presentation, then quickly stuffed it into his mouth.

Delicious!

So, so delicious!

While eating, the soldier also removed his gas mask.

This was the first time Noah had seen his appearance, as he had hardly ever removed his gas mask before.

After all, there was no need, so Noah didn't tamper with it.

Out of a desire to protect each other's privacy, Noah did not investigate what kind of person this soldier truly was.

How old was he?

However, after the other party removed his mask, Noah saw it.

Roughly estimated, he was at most fifteen or sixteen years old!?

For a moment, Noah couldn't accept such an assessment.

He quickly took out a soul detection device and scanned the soldier who was feasting in front of him.

Soon, the instrument reported the soldier's soul age.

In the federation, due to the widespread availability of life-extension technology, it was possible for ordinary federal citizens to live as long as they wished, even up to forty or fifty thousand years.

However, few people were willing to live that long; more people preferred to live in the subspace opened up by the federation after death.

It was precisely because of this that Noah had to determine how many years the other party had lived based on their soul.

*Soul and body fit for 16 years*

Big question marks appeared on Noah's small head. What was all this? Was this child labor? Oh no, this was even more terrifying than child labor; this was directly sending child laborers to war.

Such an act was an extreme violation of federal law.

If anyone dared to do such a thing in the federation, they would have been dragged out and shot long ago, and then subjected to extreme torture for 5,000 years in subspace.

As a former federal researcher and current explorer, feelings of anger arose in Noah's mind, but having been an explorer for so long, he managed to suppress them.

After all, having become an explorer, he had experienced more things.

All sorts of bizarre races could appear in the galaxy; it was nothing surprising.

Ever since the federation ascended to a universe with an unknown number of star systems, these explorers had already encountered all sorts of things.

Not all interstellar empires in the entire galaxy could achieve the same level as the Terran Federation.

Many more interstellar empires were quite abstract.

However, even though he had seen so many abstract things, when Noah saw the abstraction of the Imperium of Man, his urge to complain grew even stronger.

After all, Noah didn't care about other things.

Those other civilizations in the galaxy, those guys were just aliens.

They were beings that should be purged, and federal citizens didn't need to care about them, but the person opposite him was human.

Being human made it different.

For the federation, the treatment of humans and alien xenos was always different.

Noah had an urge to curse that God-Emperor, but recalling the absurd memories of this soldier in his mind, he held back.

It was better not to sour relations with this human compatriot opposite him.

After all, through those memories, he could already determine that this soldier was a fanatical religious extremist.

It was better not to casually disparage his god, otherwise, wouldn't the atmosphere, which had finally eased, be ruined again by him?

But then again, sending teenagers to fight in wars was simply too much.

Noah's heart was still burning with anger.

At this age, he should be sent to school to study, so why was he carrying weapons and going to the battlefield?

Fighting should, of course, be left to the federation's soldiers or the federation's sentient AI lifeforms.

"Sigh... pitiful..." Noah sighed deeply once more. By this time, however, the soldier in front of him had finally stopped eating and had completely finished all the food.

After finishing his meal, the soldier finally realized that Noah seemed to have been watching him the whole time.

His face involuntarily blushed, and then he quickly put his gas mask back on.

Although he was a veteran who had served for a year, being stared at so directly was rare; he rarely interacted with ordinary people.

However, after he put on his gas mask, the atmosphere once again fell silent. After all, soldiers were truly not good with words.

The reason he had said so much earlier was purely out of excitement.

Noah naturally understood that the other party probably didn't do it on purpose, so he simply let him speak again.

"Are you full, poor child? If not, I have more here."

As he spoke, Noah took out another box of food from his hand. To be honest, after seeing the other party's young age, Noah felt a sense of guilt.

What had he done? He had actually used psionic search on such a young child.

Although it hadn't caused any harm to the other party, the thought of it made Noah feel like he was being inhumane.

Facing Noah's goodwill, the soldier, whose face was already a little red under his gas mask, blushed even more.

Although soldiers have always been known for their silence, their attacks in silence, and their deaths in silence, this does not mean that their minds are not delicate.

On the contrary, soldiers are one of the most delicate-minded units in the Imperium of Man's army.

Deep within their inarticulate hearts, they are extremely grateful to anyone who is kind to them and remember it.

They will protect the citizens of the Imperium with their lives.

Because of this, facing Noah's renewed concern, the soldier's face turned as red as a ripe apple.
