Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Whamon’s Death! Brave Tornado Annihilates MetalSeadramon!

[On-screen]

The view shifted.

"WarGreymon!"

Joe Kido sprang up, clutching his hair, his face twisting.

He watched that orange figure on the screen dragged into the endless deep. His heart lodged in his throat.

"Joe, calm down!"

Gomamon spun in anxious circles at his side, still trying to steady his partner.

"But—but Tai—"

He didn't finish. On-screen, WarGreymon's armor groaned under crushing stress.

"No! At this rate WarGreymon will be squashed flat!"

He threw calm out the window and shouted at the screen.

"Gomamon! We're helping! Now!"

Gomamon nodded hard. His eyes turned resolute.

"Got it, Joe!"

Data surged up around him.

"Gomamon digivolve to— Ikkakumon!"

"Ikkakumon digivolve to— Zudomon!"

A giant silhouette filled the screen. The signature warhammer crackled with terror-bright lightning.

Zudomon didn't waste a word. He heaved the massive hammer and charged the hulking MetalSeadramon with all his might.

"Vulcan's Hammer!"

KRAK!

The titanic blow, wreathed in thunder, smashed down on MetalSeadramon's dorsal fin.

Blinding arcs burst in the deep, a brief minefield of lightning.

"Raaaugh—!"

MetalSeadramon howled.

The super-alloy armor was mighty, but that fin tied into nerves. Shock plus impact dealt it a rare stab of pain.

It flinched—and the pincer crushing WarGreymon loosened.

[Savers World]

"Nice! That hammer's got bite!"

Marcus Damon smacked a fist into his palm, full of approval.

"It didn't deal decisive damage, but it broke the suppression and made an opening. Solid tactic," Gallantmon Crimson Mode analyzed, even.

Craniummon folded his arms, massive frame unmoving. "Timing was excellent. At Mega level, a tiny mistake kills."

Alphamon watched in silence, thinking.

Beside Marcus, Agumon S hopped. "Boss! WarGreymon's gonna counter!"

[Tamers World]

"Yes! He's free!" Takato Matsuki shouted.

Guilmon pumped his little claws. "WarGreymon, run!"

Rika Nonaka's frown deepened. "Run? To where? This is the deep sea. It's his field. Slip once, he'll clamp you again. Nothing's changed."

Henry Wong pushed his glasses. "She's right. And that strike, though effective, enraged MetalSeadramon. The real storm is next."

Ryo Akiyama's eyes locked on the orange form. "It all depends on how he uses this beat. Pull back for a breath… or go all-in."

On-screen—

The instant the claw released, WarGreymon kicked hard. His body became an orange streak, racing upward.

He gulped air. That abyssal pressure had nearly crushed his core.

He hadn't even steadied when a worse pulse flared below.

MetalSeadramon's cold electronic eyes fixed on him. At its nose, a muzzle spun and compressed azure energy like a whirling nebula.

"River of Power!"

The moment everyone thought WarGreymon was doomed—

A colossal white figure lunged in from behind and to the side.

Whamon.

With a long, resolute cry, he threw his own body between WarGreymon and the beam.

"Whamon!"

Tai's shout tore at his throat.

"Don't!"

Before the children's desperate cries finished—

The blue pillar of ultimate destruction slammed into Whamon's flank.

KRA-DOOOOM—

The deep erupted.

The shock rocked Whamon's bulk. He coughed a vast gout of water, body shuddering. A charred, terrible wound scored his snow-white hide.

[02 World]

"Whamon!"

Davis smashed the table, eyes red.

"MetalSeadramon, you're not getting away with that!"

Veemon bared his teeth, aching to dive into the screen.

Ken Ichijouji's face went grim. "Using a comrade's sacrifice to force a chance… That kind of fighting…"

Wormmon whispered, "Ken… we once…"

Ken froze. He said nothing, fists tightening.

In the corner, the long-silent BlackWarGreymon showed his first violent ripple in those hollow eyes.

He looked at the wounded Whamon who had protected another, then at the WarGreymon—his mirror—who'd been protected.

"Protect… so that's what it feels like to protect…"

He whispered. No one heard.

High above, Azulongmon's vast form loomed in cloud, voice solemn. "The weight of life is revealed here. The DigiDestined and their partners are enacting the true meaning of 'protection.'"

On-screen—

MetalSeadramon saw its blast blocked and sneered.

"Fool. Meddle and die faster."

Its muzzle gathered energy again, ready to finish Whamon.

But then—

A surge unlike any before burst from behind Whamon. Fury and grief, twisted into a terrifying force.

WarGreymon's eyes burned blood-red.

Whamon's sacrifice. That charred wound. That scream. They ignited every ember in him.

Not mere anger. A resolve to obliterate everything before him.

"MetalSeadramon…"

His voice dropped to a rasp, every word edged with killing frost.

"You're going down with him."

As the last syllable fell—

A golden cyclone detonated from his frame, dyeing the sea around him gold.

"Brave Tornado!"

This spiral dwarfed all before it.

Fueled by wrath, its spin and power spiked to the unthinkable.

WarGreymon shed every thought of dodging or guarding.

He became a golden lance that split the dark, charging head-on into the River of Power.

[Frontier World]

"Is he crazy?! He's taking it head-on?" Takuya Kanbara gaped.

As a warrior of flame, he knew the risk of clashing energies.

Kouji Minamoto's face was set. "It's suicide. Two forces collide and he'll be atomized."

Zoe Orimoto and Angewomon held their breath.

"No… look!" Lucemon's will spoke at last, a thread of surprise in its tone. "See how he spins! That's not just wrapping himself in energy. He's using extreme rotation to cut and clear the water ahead, making a transient vacuum corridor. He's applying physical force to counter a pure energy attack!"

[Xros Wars World]

"Incredible idea. Reckless to the limit," Taiki Kudo said, shaken.

"Using centrifugal force to deflect the beam? That's some gutsy tactics!" Shoutmon yelled.

Akari Hinomoto and Zenjirou Tsurugi were speechless, staring at the mad golden spiral.

On-screen—

Gold tornado met blue beam in the abyssal dark.

No earth-shattering nuke bloom.

Something jaw-dropping instead—

The golden drill ripped into the River of Power and split it, shearing the flow to either side.

WarGreymon's silhouette flickered within the light—forcing through the beam's barrier.

"What?!"

For the first time, terror cracked MetalSeadramon's electronic gaze.

It couldn't parse what it saw.

Its sure-kill had been broken—by brute, barbaric force?

Too late to think.

The golden death spiral was already at its chest.

[Digimon tri World]

"He… actually punched through…" Jesmon's usually composed tone shook.

Alphamon watched, cloak stirring without wind. "Rage has driven him to his limit. He's focused everything on a single 'breakthrough,' discarding all defense. A pure gamble."

"Gennai" (impostor) smiled, warped. "Heh. Splendid theater. See the trap, charge it anyway. 'Courage,' is it? Foolish… and entertaining."

Tri-world Taichi stared at the younger, fiercer self on the screen, eyes a tangle of feelings.

Beside him, WarGreymon felt that other self's tidal fury. His armor thrummed in answer.

On-screen—

MetalSeadramon was still reeling when the golden cyclone—packed with boundless rage—smashed into its chest.

SKREEEEE—

Metal screamed as it tore.

The Dramon Destroyers on WarGreymon's arms, magnified by that rotation, unleashed their primal, fatal edge.

A perfect counter to dragon-types.

The "indestructible" super-alloy shell shredded like paper.

A huge, jagged wound ripped wide.

The golden spiral punched in through the breast and burst out the back, trailing sparks and shattered parts.

"Guh—aaaaaaaaaaah!"

MetalSeadramon shrieked, beyond anguish.

Its eyes flickered, then died.

Its colossal body hung for seconds, then slowly toppled backward.

As it sank, the frame crumbled—into a storm of data shards that drifted and dissolved in the black.

[Cyber Sleuth World]

"We… won?" Arata Sanada pulled off his headset, staring.

"Total data collapse," he muttered. "Core program destroyed in an instant. No chance to recompile."

Nokia Shiramine whispered to herself.

Kyoko Kuremi lifted her cup and sipped. Her faintly trembling hand betrayed her unsettled core. She exhaled.

"Rage as fuel. Body as spear. Everything cast away for a single pierce. A way of fighting that is… magnificent enough to make the heart quake."

The battle was over.

The golden spiral thinned, revealing WarGreymon.

He was drenched in his own data-blood. Fine cracks crazed his armor. Forcing through the beam had exacted a brutal price.

He drifted down by Whamon, whose vast body was already going translucent.

The children, riding the minisubs inside Whamon, eased in close.

Whamon looked at them, looked at WarGreymon. Weak eyes still held relief and resolve.

"DigiDestined…"

The voice broke, but reached every heart.

"Save this world… I'm counting on you…"

With that, his great form failed. He became a sky of starlight, rising slow, as if chasing the unreachable sun above the sea.

"Wha—mon—!"

T.K. couldn't hold it. He pressed to the window and sobbed.

Patamon fluttered to his side and patted his back with tiny wings.

Mimi turned away, pulling out her pink scarf to wipe the tears that wouldn't stop.

The others were silent. Grief filled the tight space.

Then—

Izzy Izumi, eyes fixed on his screen, suddenly pointed at the far waters and shouted through a shaking voice, "Everyone, look! The ocean part of Spiral Mountain… it's receding!"

Heads snapped to the windows.

With MetalSeadramon fallen, that ink-black sea the Dark Power had smothered began, visibly, to clear.

A long-lost beam of sunlight speared the heavy surface. A holy column of light fell on the waters that had just survived a death match—and on the kids' tear-streaked faces.

Tai watched the beam, then looked to Spiral Mountain still coiled in the distance. He slowly clenched his fist.

"Whamon's sacrifice won't be in vain."

Quiet words. Hard as iron.

"We will defeat the remaining Dark Masters."
