Chapter 5 - Chapter 05: Crisis for the Whitebeard Pirates

"Marco, maybe you were right. That guy really is a monster."

Vista looked stunned.

"I misjudged him."

Without making a show of it, Satan had become this powerful. The method he used to win might have been a bit unorthodox, but that ability was a part of him.

"Yeah. If he's a monster, then he's got limitless possibilities," Marco sighed.

A month ago, Satan couldn't even truss a chicken. Now he had defeated the captain of a pirate crew. His rate of growth was beyond imagining.

Still reeling, Marco walked up to Satan and wrapped an arm around his head, pressing his fingers against Satan's temple.

"Kid, you've been hiding deep. Hurry up, which Devil Fruit did you eat? It's so strange."

"What if it isn't a Devil Fruit ability?" Satan shrugged, helpless. It really wasn't a Devil Fruit. It was the Seven Deadly Sins.

"Brat, are you keeping this from me? Besides Devil Fruits, where does a power that bizarre even come from?" Marco said gravely.

"Do you think a Devil Fruit user wouldn't be hated by the sea?" Satan shot back.

"So you really don't have a Devil Fruit ability?" Marco hesitated, remembering that Satan had gone into the sea a few days ago.

"This is the Seven Deadly Sins. Arrogance, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, Lust. All seven are the source of my power. Seize is only one expression of it," Satan said without concealment.

The power of the Seven Sins had no weakness. Everyone carried negative emotions. He had grown used to arrogance and knew nothing of keeping a low profile.

"Such a strong power, and Seize is only one manifestation?"

"Unbelievable. If I hadn't seen it myself, I'd never believe there was any power like this besides Devil Fruits."

"I remember when we saved you, you couldn't even lift a chicken."

"In a single month you've grown this much."

"It took me years to reach this level."

"Terrifying talent. Looks like our Whitebeard Pirates are about to gain another top fighter."

The crew murmured to one another. Even some division commanders like Marco couldn't help feeling envious. The rank-and-file pirates were even sourer. After all, Satan's Seize was no weaker than a Devil Fruit, a wondrous power that wasn't just a single trick, and he didn't have to fear seawater. How could they not envy him.

"Ding, Envy detected. Absorb or not."

"Absorb."

"Ding, congratulations to the host. Gained 130 Envy points. Converted into Agility +13."

"Kid, I have something to ask."

Just as Satan was delighting in the new Envy points, Whitebeard spoke. In an instant, the deck fell silent. Every pirate looked at Satan, curious what Pops wanted to ask him.

"Go ahead," Satan said.

"Will the Whitebeard Pirates truly disband?" Whitebeard's tone was heavy. He had poured his heart into building this family and couldn't believe it would break apart. But Satan wasn't someone who spoke aimlessly.

"Believe it or not, the day of disbandment draws near," Satan sighed. The fall of the Whitebeard Pirates would be a regret for the pirate world. But everyone must die. For Whitebeard to die in battle might even be a kind of fortune. At least he would leave his renown behind at the end. To wither away from old age would be the greatest sorrow for a powerhouse.

"Damn brat, talking nonsense again," Vista snapped.

"Satan, I saved you; don't go cursing me," Marco said, exasperated. He couldn't steer the talk away from the extinction of the Whitebeard Pirates. The crew glared at Satan, resentment in their eyes. No one was allowed to curse the Whitebeard Pirates. As the strongest crew under one of the Four Emperors, they would never disband.

Only Whitebeard remained calm, even laughing.

"Brat, my Whitebeard Pirates are the strongest crew in the New World. Why would we disband? Ridiculous."

Satan sighed. "Believe it or not, because you will die."
