Family was complicated. That much Emily Slater knew. But even so, she could not help but wish from time to time that her own family was a little less difficult to deal with.
For instance, she was currently walking in what was now her sister's new living space. Emily was not doing that because she wanted to. Had it been up to her, she would have been busy working. But their grandfather just would not stay quiet about how worried he was about his eldest granddaughter.
"You know that she has not been making the best decisions for quite some time now, Emily,"
"What if she is being held against her will by that Deacon Roth? What if she is not even aware of what is happening?"
"Grandfather, Haley seemed perfectly aware when she told us that she was married to Deacon Roth,"
"Even so, I would rest easy knowing that my granddaughter truly is in a good space,"
