"Why?" The single word hung between us like a blade.
"Why what?" I could feel my expression hardening, confusion mixing with irritation.
"Why couldn't I bring Kari with me? Why wasn't I allowed to ask her to come along? Tell me why, Sandy." Dominic closed the gap between us in one swift movement, his hands clamping down on my arms with desperate intensity.
A sharp breath escaped me as my spine collided with the kitchen island. I tilted my head back to meet his stare head-on, ready to unleash the fury building inside me. "Why don't you just—"
The words dissolved on my lips the moment our eyes locked. Moisture gathered in his gaze, tears that threatened to spill but remained trapped behind his lashes. Raw and unforgiving emotion stared back at me.
The Dominic I remembered had never shed a single tear.
