At Wald Pictures Headquarters...
"Is everyone here? Good. Let's begin."
Zane sat at the head of the giant conference table. He looked around the room at the twelve people sitting there and felt a huge rush of pride.
These were his most trusted people. The leaders of his empire.
Victor Jones (CEO of Wald Pictures)
Martha (Head of Money)
James (Manager of the SpongeBob Stores)
Stephen Hillenburg (Director of the Animation Studio)
David Messer (Head Writer of the Animation Studio)
Ms. Donna (CEO of the UPN TV Network)
"Okay!" Zane said, his voice serious but friendly. "Some of you have probably guessed what this meeting is about."
"Today," he announced, "I am officially combining our four main companies—Wald Pictures, the SpongeBob stores, the Animation Studio, and the UPN Network—into one giant family. They will all be led by a new parent company."
Whoosh!
The room buzzed with whispers. Even though they had guessed it, hearing it out loud was a shock.
All these companies were very young. Wald Pictures was only a year old! In Hollywood, that was just a baby company.
And... no one really wanted another boss above them.
"Boss," James asked, "what will the new company be called?"
"Excellent question!" Zane clapped his hands. He smiled at his lawyer. "David, please explain it to everyone."
David, Zane's personal lawyer, stood up.
"Good morning," David said. "My name is David Martin. One month ago, Mr. Blackwood asked me to hire a special team to study all your businesses. We found one big problem: you are wasting resources!"
"So," David announced solemnly, "Mr. Blackwood has decided to combine everything to make us stronger. The new parent company is born! Its name is... Golden Dawn Entertainment Group!"
Golden Dawn?
Some people thought the name sounded a little... cheesy. But Zane was the boss, so they kept quiet!
Zane was very happy with the name. He thought it sounded grand and hopeful, like a new day.
"Boss," Ms. Donna raised her hand, "may I ask a question?"
"Of course," Zane nodded.
"Will each company still keep its own money separate?" she asked.
"Yes," Zane said. "If we mixed it all up, it would be a mess! But... the parent company will have a special team that checks everyone's money four times a year."
Donna nodded. "I have no more questions."
Keeping the money separate was smart. It made things faster. But Zane knew it was also risky. Sometimes, managers tried to steal money when the boss wasn't looking.
Zane believed in the famous saying: "Trust, but verify."
He knew stories about bad managers who stole companies from their owners. Like Michael Eisner at Disney, who pushed out the Disney family to become the king of the company!
Zane wasn't going to let that happen.
He had a plan to stay in control:
He would approve all big projects.
He would hire all the top bosses himself.
Every six months, he would hire a secret team to investigate each company and make sure everyone was being honest.
"I trust you all," Zane thought, looking at their faces, "but I'm not going to be blind."
If anyone did try to steal from him, Zane promised himself he would punish them severely to scare everyone else. Running a business was like being a king. You couldn't be too nice.
"Boss," Stephen asked, "who will be the leader of the new parent company?"
Everyone sat up straight. This was the big question! Who would get the top job?
"Victor Jones!" Zane announced loudly.
He looked at his loyal friend. "Tell me, Victor... can you handle this heavy responsibility?"
"I will not let you down!" Victor said, nodding again and again.
Everyone else nodded, too. Some were a little jealous, but they knew Victor was the best choice. He had been with Zane the longest and was the smartest manager.
And so, from that day forward, the Golden Dawn Entertainment Media Group was officially born!
