Sallie's POV
Webster's cutting question caught the servant off guard.
She paused, gathering herself before responding, "Ms. Isabelle has been getting up earlier than usual these days. She'd already left by this time."
The servant maintained a neutral expression, though I could sense her internal frustration. Every time I had tried waking him or covering him with a blanket, he'd yell at me and chase me off.
But as just a servant, calling out her employer's contradictions wasn't her job.
When Webster pressed for my whereabouts, the servant could only shake her head with apologetic murmurs.
Annoyance flashed through him. He couldn't understand why I seemed hell-bent on provoking him.
He grabbed his phone, ready to call and unleash his anger on me. But scanning through his contacts, he discovered my number was missing.
Jill's name sat at the top of the list. Webster dimly remembered my number once occupying that spot before he'd blocked it ages ago.
