I could tell Everly was just being polite when she asked. We weren't close—not really. Ever since the whole mess with Elisabeth, she'd kept her distance from me, though things weren't as tense as they used to be.
I gave her a nod. "I need to speak with Mr. Kelvin about something."
What I'd planned as a casual mention somehow turned into a real question. "Actually, do you happen to know someone named Mandy? She's..."
I rattled off Mandy's basic info, though I wasn't expecting much. Sure, Everly taught at Northwood High, but she couldn't possibly know every student, especially someone as under-the-radar as Mandy.
I only brought it up because I'd hit some weird roadblocks while having Mandy investigated. Figured it was worth a shot.
But when Everly heard the name, her face shifted—surprise mixed with something like caution.
She actually knows her? The thought caught me off guard. "You know who she is?"
