Sallie's POV
Lionel acted like he couldn't see the suspicion and wariness in my eyes, flashing that infuriating grin as he approached. "Everyone's waiting. Let's go in."
I frowned, my guard instantly up. "Lionel, what are you up to?" The warning in my voice was crystal clear.
He caught it but didn't seem worried in the slightest. Just shrugged like he didn't have a care in the world. "Hey, it's got nothing to do with me. I was invited here, too." His innocent act didn't fool me—not with that gleam of amusement dancing in his eyes.
Since Webster still hadn't shown up, Lionel leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Since we go way back, I'll give you a heads-up. To Grandpa Levi, today is an important day. He's here to discuss a major happy event. So, even if he's not feeling well, he insisted on showing up."
The threat was thinly veiled, using Levi as leverage.
I shot him a razor-sharp look. "If you're trying to help the Noah family, I'm not afraid to burn it all down."
