Chapter 1 - Amber eyes

A paranormal circus wasn't really my kind of thing, but I didn't have anything to do that evening.

"Saves being bored at home I guess"

An anonymous benefactor sent me a front-row ticket for whatever reason unknown to me.

...

The sparkling black and purple circus tent was packed with people...

"And a girl with a cat apparently" i mumbled as a raven haired girl passed me by.

I admit that I could be a little skittish at times, and the macabre costumed undead clowns that would roam the aisles startled me an embarrassing number of times.

The show was a spectacle well worth the scares.

The acts were at once chilling and captivating.

I couldn't help but to hold my breath as the vampiric knife-thrower stabbed blades dangerously close to her pray.

I gasped alongside the rest of the audience as the ghoulish acrobats clung to one another in their aerial act.

Among the extravagantly dangerous performances, though, the show-stopper was none other than the circus magician.

...

Small, lean and dressed in a floaty black dress grazing her knees, the magician didn't look any older than 17 or 18.

It wasn't uncommon for young prodigious enter the performance scene so early

However something about her felt fundamentally different.

She exuded a kind of confidence that most her age wouldn't have.

She wore a gentle smile that seemed to not fit her.

This felt eerie yet at the same time charming almost comforting.

As for her tricks, they were nothing short of breathtaking.

She turned the flowing purple drapes around the aerial silk dancer; who even seemed ethereal, from head to toe dressed in white, to fluttering purple rose pettles.

She effortlessly caught the dancer in her arms.

She then called quite a gorgeous man onto the stage, whispered something to him and controlled him like a puppet on a string, or more accurately a set of strings.

Her fingers appeared to twitch erratically as she guided his movement.

At one point she simply waved her hand, as she did this, a trail of deep violet fire followed her fingertips quickly they engulfed her entire form, rising high before flickering out.

As they did so she took a small bow.

In doing this i was able to take in more of her looks.

...

She wore a floaty black dress reaching her knees, she had white skin, now I don't mean the usual type of white, i mean she looked ghostly, her skin looked like it had a tinge of blue to it. She had waist length dark purple hair and amber eyes that if I'm honest, don't belong to a human.

However for me this was exactly what I had been searching for.

There was one final spectacular act, however, I was no longer focusing on the stage, instead I was plotting how to find the magician after the show.

When i refocused my eyes on the stage I quickly realised the final act had finished. I could see a rugged looking woman leaving the stage, joining back with the croud.

On stage the magician had a crimson liquid staining her dress and droplets rolled off of her hands as she exited.

As the lights dimmed the stage hands swooped in to clean up.

I took this as my sign to leave.

...

I crept along the sides of the circus tent making sure to move quickly but silently as to not get caught.

...

Reaching the back of the tent I only for a moment relaxed as I was free from the sight of people.

Ahead of me I could see a few smaller tents my guess was that they were about 12 by 12 feet in size.

...

The tent posted in the centre was my goal.

I could still smell the sweet fragrance of blood that would cling to her long after performing her final act.

I didn't have to wait long as I suspected she wasn't human.

She probably felt me near the same way I could feel her.

...

I stepped forward towards her tent with a slight moment of hesitation before brushing aside the silk of the entrance and stepping inside.

...

Scanning my surroundings i noticed a few things about the interior of the tent one of them being the girl seated at a round table by the opposing wall.

Glittering golden light spilled from the fairy lights that were strung up around the top of the walls.

...

"Come, please take a seat" she gestured to a chair facing her,

I've been waiting for your arrival Spirit"
