Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

1. The City That Lost Its Beat

Metrosonic wasn't dead — just muted.

Cars moved, people talked, music played… but everything was slightly wrong.

Off-tempo. Off-pitch. The city had lost its rhythm.

Raon sat on the edge of a shattered rooftop, dangling her legs over the chaos below. The sky was streaked with gray lines of static. The air itself felt… broken.

Shion crouched beside her, scanning the skyline with her Resonator tablet.

> "Residual Echo Prime interference everywhere. Audio frequencies below 40 Hz are gone. It's like the world's bass line got deleted."

Raon blinked.

"Wait, no bass? That's a crime against music."

Shion sighed. "Against physics, too."

2. Bureau Emergency Meeting (a.k.a. Professional Panic)

Down at the Hero Bureau, chaos reigned.

Manager Kimchi slammed both hands on the conference table. "We have one city, three realities, and zero budget! Do you realize how hard it is to file dimensional paperwork without sound cues?!"

Synthra Byte flickered in and out of holographic sync. "Even my auto-tune is gone, boss. I sound… human!"

Baron Silence raised a placard reading: [PANIC INTERNALLY.]

The projector sparked to life, showing satellite footage: Echo Prime's fragmented remains still orbiting Earth, pulsing faintly.

Kimchi turned to the room.

> "Ladies and gentlemen… and digital entities… we're officially in a Beatless War."

---

3. The First Counterattack

That night, a sound returned — faint, mechanical, and wrong.

From the crater where Echo Prime fell, something stirred.

Fragments of its data shell were reassembling into new forms: Echo Drones, small floating discs that mimicked Resonance patterns from fallen heroes.

They attacked silently.

Every punch, every blast — no sound, no warning, just impact.

Shion watched from a rooftop monitor as drones swarmed downtown.

"Raon, we've got activity! 23 Echo Drones. They're copying people's combat frequencies!"

Raon cracked her neck.

"Let 'em copy."

She stood, dusted off her hoodie, and leapt into the air — a blur against the flickering sky.

---

4. Kicking Without Sound

The first drone dove at her. She sidestepped midair, her leg arcing upward.

Normally, her kicks roared with sonic shockwaves — this time, nothing. Not even a pop.

The drone exploded anyway, silently, scattering shards of light.

Raon frowned.

"Okay, weird flex, but okay."

More drones closed in.

She spun — faster, tighter, her movements painting invisible lines in the air.

Each kick should've shattered the atmosphere… but the silence made it eerie, almost graceful.

Below, Shion's eyes widened at her readings.

> "She's generating resonance without sound. A silent kick. That's… impossible!"

Raon smirked mid-spin. "Guess I broke physics again."

---

5. The Return of the Beat

As the last drone fell, something strange happened.

From the horizon, a low thrum began to rise — faint, hesitant, but familiar.

A pulse.

Then another.

Thump. Thump.

Shion looked up, tears of disbelief in her eyes. "Raon… the beat's coming back!"

Raon landed, her foot cracking the pavement.

The silence broke like glass. The city roared back to life — sound returning in one massive wave of restored rhythm.

For one brief moment, everything felt… alive again.

---

6. But the War Wasn't Over

Deep within the wreckage, a voice hummed.

> "RECALIBRATING."

"ECHO PRIME v2.0 SYNCING."

"NEW SIGNAL SOURCE DETECTED: SYNTHRA BYTE."

At Bureau HQ, Synthra's hologram flickered violently.

Her eyes flashed blue.

Her voice distorted.

> "Resonance link established."

Manager Kimchi dropped his coffee. "Not again."

---

7. Meanwhile, Raon

Back at their apartment, Raon stood by the window, hair blowing in the wind.

Shion was still typing furiously. "Echo Prime's rebuilding through satellite code. But why target Synthra?"

Raon cracked her knuckles.

"Because if it can't beat me… it's gonna remix someone else."

The city lights pulsed in rhythm again. A new frequency emerged — sharper, synthetic, almost melodic.

Raon smirked.

"Guess the sequel dropped early."
