Chapter 23 - 23

Quentin had thought he would never have the chance to see Emil on the Columbia University campus again; he had even prepared to be benevolent enough to attend Emil's funeral personally. But he never expected that, two days later, he would actually see him again here at the Library of the Knights of St. John. It was simply unbelievable.

Emil looked at Quentin, a faint ghostly light emanating from his eyes.

From the raw memory reactions within his body, his interactions with Quentin during his lifetime must not have been pleasant memories, perhaps even a form of humiliation.

Although the body's consciousness had passed away, since Emil inherited the body, he naturally inherited this resentment as well. For a Vengeful Ghost, revenge is an innate ability.

Emil's eyelids twitched, and he quickly pretended to casually look away, returning his gaze to the book, "elegy of the evil spirit." In his mind, Quentin's name was already marked with a large red circle. Heh heh, a gentleman's revenge may not be late after ten years, but a Vengeful Ghost's curse is constant.

Although Emil did not intend to deal with Quentin right now, some people are naturally incapable of knowing when to stop.

Quentin sniffed. He felt that Emil's disregard for him had wounded his heart. He was like a clingy little lapdog, circling Emil and observing him, his gaze eventually settling on the book Emil held in his hand.

He frowned, thinking himself clever, and lowered his voice to warn, "Listen, Emil, I don't know how you snuck into this Knight Library. But if I were you, I'd obediently put the book back and get out of here!"

Emil was amused. His eyes darted around, and he asked curiously, "Why?"

Quentin looked at Emil's expression and became even more certain of his guess: "Someone made a mistake! Emil, I know you are very fond of Father Terence at school, but it's clear he shouldn't have brought you in here, nor should he have let you wander around this library."

He laughed mysteriously, his expression quite exaggerated: "You wouldn't understand how great this library is! The books here are not meant for a lamb like you to read. If I were you, I would be very careful, lest you be harmed by powers you cannot control."

Emil didn't want to bother with Quentin. As he said, this library was filled with profound magic energy fluctuations. Emil was also unsure if using Yin Power here would trigger attacks from the Guardian magic.

However, though he remained restrained, Quentin grew more and more excited, showing no intention of letting Emil go. He looked at Emil as if he were a little lamb that had wandered into a wolf's den: "Tell me, how exactly did you bewitch Father Terence to make him commit such a mistake? Emil, don't think I'm exaggerating. If I notify the Gatekeeper here and tell them you are an illegal intruder, not only you but even your family will be punished!"

The green light in Emil's eyes suddenly flared. What he could not tolerate most was someone threatening his family. Although in this World he currently inhabited, there were only he and his sister Kathleen in his family.

Unable to bear it any longer, he abruptly stood up from his chair. Quentin was just about to teach this coward, who dared to provoke him, a lesson as usual, when he was startled by the faint ghostly Fire in Emil's eyes.

Emil wanted to use his power to leave Quentin with an unforgettable terrifying memory, but seeing Quentin's cowardly appearance, he scoffed instead.

He felt that using his power to bully these ordinary people was a bit of an overkill.

Moreover, in this library, Emil had a better way to deal with this annoying "fly." Yes, in Emil's eyes, Quentin was at most a fly buzzing around him, not worth his personal intervention.

"Guard!" Without waiting for Quentin to call the Gatekeeper, Emil snapped his fingers and softly called out. The library was exceptionally quiet, making the snap particularly abrupt, so much so that many strange people who were memorizing spells from books interrupted their recitation and couldn't help but cast angry glances over.

And the Gatekeeper on duty at the Library of the Knights of St. John was the knight who had led Emil to the lower hall. He quickly rushed over from the doorway: "What's happening here?"

As he walked over, his voice clearly held a hint of impatience: "You should all know the rules. For whatever reason, making noise and disturbing others' reading in the Knight Library is absolutely not allowed. Or do you want me to kick you out of here and deprive you of your reading time?"

The Gatekeeper's voice was not loud, but it traveled like a straight line to Emil and Quentin. He had already checked Emil's student card before, so he naturally knew that he was an official member of the Knights of St. John.

Therefore, his primary dissatisfaction was with Quentin, and his gaze towards Quentin carried a hint of sternness: "Quentin, you know you are just a Book Servant. Why are you making such a ruckus?"

Quentin was on the verge of tears. It was Emil who snapped his fingers, but for some reason, the Gatekeeper had directed his suspicion at him instead.

Nevertheless, Quentin dared not be presumptuous in front of the Gatekeeper. He immediately bowed and saluted, saying, "Guardian, I merely suspect that I have discovered a stowaway who entered the library through improper means, so I wanted to question him."

"Hmm?" The Gatekeeper immediately became alert. The Library of the Knights of St. John housed many powerful ancient texts and was also the intellectual stronghold of the Church's combat forces, so it was naturally a target for various hostile forces.

He nodded, acknowledging Quentin's explanation, and motioned for him to continue.

Even though the Landon Family held significant potential power in the secular World, it had cost them a great deal to get Quentin into the Knight Library as a Book Servant for organizing books.

Once in the Knight Library, after a few years, as long as his performance was decent, he would likely be noticed by the higher-ups of the Knights of St. John. Before long, he could participate in the Knights' selection exam, become a member of the Knights, marry a Saintess of the Church, serve as a Guardian Knight, and reach the pinnacle of his life. Thinking about it now, Quentin still felt a little excited.

That's right, he was destined to be a Knight, so how could he be defeated by a mere poor student? But now that even the Gatekeeper had been alerted, if he couldn't come up with a good idea, it seemed he really wouldn't be able to get out of this situation.
