Chapter 24 - 24

Fortunately, as a descendant of the Landon Family and the future heir of the Brand Group, Quentin was not a completely useless scion.

Many talents related to conspiracy and framing were inherent to the scions of such prominent families.

Quentin was no exception; his mind quickly conjured up a wicked scheme.

He looked at Emil with a confident, mocking gaze, pointed at him, and said, "Respected Guardian, I know this person.

He is my classmate from Columbia University Divinity School.

His name is Emil, and he is merely the descendant of a commoner.

I don't know by what despicable means he infiltrated the Knight Library, so I was just about to expel him from here."

The Gatekeeper's expression changed slightly, and his gaze turned to Emil.

He asked in a deep voice, "Mr. Emil, is this true?"

Quentin watched from the side, feeling extremely pleased with himself.

Haha, Emil, it's a great pity that the people I sent out didn't get rid of you.

But what does it matter? Who told you to seek your own death by infiltrating the Library of the Knights of St. John?

Father Terence must not have told you when he brought you here just how secretive a place the Knight Library is.

Quentin thought of this, then quickly shook his head, musing to himself, "No, no, how could a fair and upright person like Father Terence violate the rules and privately bring Emil into the library?

It must be Emil himself who accidentally learned about the Knight Library from Father Terence and then snuck in!"

Recalling Father Terence's usual conduct, Quentin automatically concocted a scene in his mind:

Perhaps during one of Father Terence's lectures, he accidentally let slip the existence of the Library of the Knights of St. John.

And Emil, with ill intent, wanted to secretly enter here to read those ancient books containing powerful magic!

In any case, Quentin usually skipped classes and rarely attended lectures at Columbia University.

Even for the theology classes personally taught by Father Terence, he would only be physically present in the classroom, his mind having drifted off to who knows where.

As for whether Father Terence had actually mentioned the existence of the Knight Library in class, what did it matter?

Now that Emil had been caught in the library, who would care how he snuck in?

The Guardians of the library were not to be trifled with; just listen to the Guardian's tone—he was clearly furious.

Quentin looked at Emil with great anticipation, just waiting for him to stammer and be unable to speak, and then he would instigate the Gatekeeper to immediately remove this "thief" who had defiled the Knight Library.

However, contrary to Quentin's imagined scene, Emil maintained his composure in front of the Guardian.

He nodded and said, "That's right, Mr. Quentin here has been bothering me, like a buzzing fly.

I want to complain about him."

The Guardian immediately stood at attention and saluted Emil, promising, "Rest assured, Mr. Emil, you will never see this 'fly' in the Knight Library again!"

With that, he raised his hand and lifted Quentin off the ground.

Quentin was waiting to see Emil's predicament, but he was unexpectedly lifted into the air by the Guardian.

He immediately struggled, trying to argue, "Guardian, you've got the wrong person, Emil is over there."

The Guardian followed Quentin's refer to, looked at Emil, who had returned to his seat to read "elegy of the evil spirit," then looked at Quentin and said grumpily, "I've got you, no mistake!"

"This… why… he's the stowaway…"

Quentin pointed at Emil, so anxious he could barely speak.

The Guardian's brow furrowed.

Was what he said not clear enough?

Although he didn't want to say more to this lowly Book Servant, it concerned Mr. Emil's reputation, so he had to shake his head and say with certainty, "Mr. Emil absolutely has the right to enter and read in the Knight Library at any time.

I personally brought him in, Quentin.

Do you have any more questions?"

"This is impossible!" Quentin exclaimed, wide-eyed.

"This is the eighteenth floor of the Knight Library, the lowest and most central part.

Only those with written permission from the Church Headquarters can enter."

Quentin knew very well that Emil's family was just an ordinary family living in Hell's Kitchen, the lowest and dirtiest part of New York City.

In fact, this family didn't even have parents as pillars, relying solely on an older sister working to supplement the household income.

How could such a family be connected to the Vatican, the Church Headquarters?

Please, one is in the U.S., the other in Europe; perhaps Emil had never even been to the Vatican.

His voice was so loud that the readers, who had been engrossed in the mysteries of magic between the bookshelves on various floors, were all startled.

They then discovered that, at some unknown time, a young man was indeed sitting in the reading hall on the lowest floor.

Unlike Book Servants like Quentin, who served as miscellaneous workers in the Knight Library, and unlike Gatekeepers like the Guardian, this was a young man genuinely sitting in a chair with reading privileges.

Rarely, whispers and murmurs broke out in the Library of the Knights of St. John.

Because of the library's structure, each floor was a semi-circular shape.

Many readers couldn't help but put down their magic tomes, some curiously leaning against the floor railing, secretly looking down.

The Guardian's face had turned ashen.

Like other forces under the Church, the Knights of St. John had also gained considerable power after more than a thousand years of development.

Quentin was right; theoretically, only those vetted by the Vatican could enter the Knight Library to read.

However, there was one exception.

"Quentin, I must inform you that the esteemed Mr. Emil is a newly admitted official member of the Knights of St. John.

Are you suggesting that members of the Knights of St. John are not qualified to enter the Knight Library?"

Of course, this was a joke; the Knight Library was under the protection of the Knights of St. John.

If anyone could truly enter and exit without any restrictions, it would only be the knights of the Knights of St. John.

Quentin was stunned.

He looked at the Guardian and said, pleadingly, "This is impossible.

Joining the Knights is extremely strict; only those born into saintly families who have made great contributions to the Church can apply to join.

And Emil, he is merely the descendant of a mortal.

What right does he have to set foot here?"
