Chapter 1 - Unlikely Partners

"Yes! Fuck yes! Omg! I'm coming, fuck!"

Emily smirked and wiped her mouth as she pulled her head from inbetween her latest conquest, Jenna , the school so called queen bee who is also dating the hottest jock, Jace. Jenna was always bragging about Jace and Emily decided to teach her a lesson. After flirtatious side glances and comments, she finally had her where she wanted… legs spread open, in the school's bathroom. Emily smirked, girls like Jenna were easy, all face and no brains, give them enough attention and they will be begging for you. Emily glanced at her watch and muttered "fuck" she was late for class. She dashed out of the bathroom ignoring Jenna's calls after her. "Hey! Am I gonna see you tonight?" Jenna screamed after her.

Emily managed to get in the class right before the door was shut. "Fuck, that was close" she muttered as she settled into her seat and the teacher walked in.

As the students in Ms. Thompson's class began to stir, the teacher announced while packing up to leave at the end of the lesson "Your final project will be a significant part of your grade. You'll be working in pairs to create a visual presentation on a topic of your choice."

The room erupted into a groans, cheers, and nervous whispers. Emily a rebellious artist with a penchant for provocative sketches, rolled her eyes. She hated group projects.

Meanwhile, Rose, the class's resident bookworm, sat quietly, already brainstorming potential topics and research strategies. She was thrilled to work on a project that would showcase her skills and brains. She knew people called her a show off behind her back but she didn't care and they couldn't say it to her face anyway.

Ms. Thompson began assigning partners, almost seemingly at random. Rose heart sank as she heard her name paired with Emily.

"Great," Rose muttered under her breath. "A freak. Just what I need." She groaned under her breath.

As the class dispersed, Emily sauntered over to Rose, her ripped jeans and leather jacket a stark contrast to Rose's neat blouse and cardigan. "Hey," Emily said, her voice dripping with nonchalance. "Guess we're stuck together, brainiac."

Rose forced a smile, trying to hide her unease. "Yeah, I guess so."

Emily rolled her eyes.

Rose's eyes widened slightly as she leaned in, her voice taking on a pleading tone. "Emily, please, can we just make this work? I really need to keep my GPA up, and I don't want anything to jeopardize my chances of getting into a good college."

Emily raised an eyebrow, her expression unimpressed. She leaned against a desk, her arms crossed over her chest. "And why should I care about your GPA?" she asked, her voice dripping with apathy.

Rose's face flushed slightly as she tried to reason with Emily. "Because we're partners now, and it would be easier if we could just work together? Plus, it's not like it's going to kill you to put in a little effort."

Lily snorted, a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes. "You're really something else, brainiac. You think I'm just going to change my whole life to suit your precious GPA?"

Rose's face fell, but she tried to reason with Lily. "Well..we"

Emily cut her off with a dismissive wave of her hand. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. You do the work, and I'll show up. Sounds like a plan."

Rose's eyes widened, frustration creeping in. "That's not what I meant. I just want us to work together and produce something good. Can't you take this seriously for once?"

Emily's expression didn't change, but a hint of amusement danced in her eyes. "I'm perfectly serious, brainiac. I just don't see the point in getting all worked up over a project."

Rose turned to leave, her shoulders squared in determination. "Fine, I'll just do it myself then. It's not like I need your help anyway."

Emily's eyes narrowed, and in a swift motion, she reached out and grabbed Rose's hand. Rose's heart skipped a beat as Emily's fingers wrapped around hers, sending a jolt of electricity through her body.

Rose froze, her eyes locked on their joined hands. She felt a rush of heat spread through her cheeks as she met Emily's gaze. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the tension between them palpable.

Emily's voice was low and husky as she spoke, "You really think you can do it without me? I don't think so, brainiac."

As Emily's words hung in the air, Rose's instincts screamed at her to pull her hand away. But her body seemed rooted to the spot, her palm tingling from Emily's touch. She felt a shiver run down her spine as their gazes locked, the challenge in Emily's eyes making her heart skip a beat.

Just as Rose thought she might actually melt under Emily's intense stare, she found her voice. "Let go of my hand," she said, trying to sound firm despite the tremble in her voice.

Emily's smile was slow and deliberate, but she released Rose's hand. "Fine, brainiac."

And then, just as Rose thought things couldn't get any more awkward, Emily's eyes seemed to lock onto something behind her, and her expression changed. Her eyes narrowed, and her hand tightened into a grip.

"Speak of the devil," Emily muttered, her voice dripping with disdain.

Rose turned to see what had caught Emily's attention, and her heart sank. It was Rachel, Emily's ex-girlfriend, walking towards them with a confident smile on her face.

"Gotta bounce brainiac" Emily sneered

With that, Emily turned and sauntered off, leaving Rose feeling both relieved and strangely... unsettled.

Rose glanced at Rachel and caught her rolling her eyes before going in the opposite direction .

"God, What the fuck was that…" Rose muttered under her breath
