Chapter 3 - Down the stairs of hell

As Aton sat in despair, Neil approached him. "I never thought I'd say this but, Aton, we're going to hell," he said. "Hell — I guess we have no choice," said Aton. The ground began to shake and the winds picked up. "Aton, Alicia is the last thing in this world keeping me alive, which means I'm gonna have to kill you," said Neil. "Neil? You're joking, right?" Neil took a step, then put his hand out and said, "Die now, Aton." Neil shot a red beam at Aton without a second of hesitation. "Wait, Neil, stop!" Aton shouted as Neil continued to fire, but before the beam could connect, suddenly Aton noticed Neil and his red beam weren't even moving. "What's happening?" said Aton as he walked around Neil peacefully and sat down. "Go," said Aton — and Neil's blast shot out but took a sharp turn to the right. Neil began to smile. "That's all I needed to see," he said. "So you weren't trying to kill me?" said Aton. "Not at all — just making sure you're ready. Hell isn't the place for children," said Neil. "If it's to save Alicia, I'm more than ready," said Aton. "It seems like your power responds to your will — you just stopped time. I've only encountered one man who can do that," said Neil. "And who is that?" said Aton. "Oh, that's a story for another time. Now let's rest up before the adventure," said Neil. "Alright, but wait — how'd you know I stopped time?" said Aton. "I could tell," said Neil. "No way — I was never gonna tell you," Aton said. "And how'd you know I wasn't trying to kill you?" said Neil. "I could tell," said Neil. They both shared a laugh as they walked back home before facing their biggest nightmare.

The next morning Neil and Aton were ready to go on their journey. "Are you ready for this?" said Neil. "Of course I'm ready — let's save Alicia," said Aton. "Just making sure," said Neil. "How are we even gonna get there?" said Aton. "By using the only spell I know. I learned it from a friend before she passed away," said Neil. Aton looked down with a sad look on his face. "Alright, let's go. Citas see hell," said Neil.

They both instantly transported to the darkest place they had ever seen. There were dragons in the red sky, monsters who lurked on the ground, and demons in every corner doing hard labor. "So this is hell — I'll fix this," said Neil. Neil said one word and in a smooth motion it happened. "Peace," he said. Everything around them turned into peaceful horizons with beautiful leaves and flowers, but then his eyes widened and he fainted to the floor as everything turned back to normal. "Neil, are you okay?!" shouted Aton. He ran to help him up, but Neil's body was dragged away by a dark shadow that was laughing. Aton ran after the shadow but he was approached by a woman with pointy ears. "Who are you?" said Aton. "I'm what you would call a demonic elf. We devour pure souls, and yours is the purest I've ever seen," said the elf. My soul is the purest? thought Aton. "What did you do with Neil?" he asked. "Oh him — we took him to the new lord," said the elf. "The new lord? Who could that be?" Aton thought. "Does this new lord happen to have black wings and use purple magic?" said Aton. "Oh, you must be talking about Sir Estris, but no — the new lord Aliester is far more grand and far more powerful than even him," said the elf. Someone stronger than that guy — can Neil really win? I don't even think I'd be much help, thought Aton. "Where can I find Estris and Aliester?" he said. "Well, Estris would be located in that big tower right behind you, and Aliester would be right behind me," said the elf.

Meanwhile, while they were talking, Neil was in a dream — the worst dream he'd ever had. He was just a boy walking in a meaningless cycle. He could see his mom and his two brothers; they were all happy memories, but for some reason the memory was enough to torment him. His mother asked him a question: "Son, where's your brother?" she said as her voice became distorted. There was a silence as Neil didn't know what to say; all he could do was cry alone, until he was kicked in the stomach, waking up to another hell. "I see you've met Alina," said an old man's voice. "And who are you?" said Neil. Alina stepped on his back, pushing him down as he tried to get up. "I'm the new lord of this place. You can call me Aliester," said the old man. "I'm sorry for intruding, sir, but I'm just here to return a little girl back to Earth," said Neil. "I know why you're here. You're here to stop Estris, aren't you? But no need to worry — his plans will fail," said Aliester. "Perfect. Where can I find him so I can be on my way?" said Neil. "Leaving so soon? That was a pretty powerful spell you pulled off just a minute ago, so I'm sorry to tell you — you will never leave this place unless you become a demon," said Aliester.

It was quiet. Neil laid under Alina's foot in shock, because the only way he would leave hell is by becoming a demon or defeating the new lord of hell. "Have you made your decision yet? You have five seconds. Five," the new lord began to count. "Four," Alina gripped her sword. "Three," no one moved. "Two, one," said Aliester. But in a split second Neil tripped, Alina stole her sword, stabbed her in the neck, and flashed over to Aliester, pointing the sword at him.

"I am no demon and you're the only one that needs to make a decision," said Neil. "Your illusions don't fool me, boy," said Aliester. A sword was then stabbed through Neil's heart by Alina — but Neil was just an illusion. The fake Neil disappeared and the room turned black; all they could see was a red light in the distance. Alina began walking up to the light, but surprisingly it was a red beam of light being shot directly at her. She quickly drew her sword and cut the beam in half, leaving her unharmed. Without any time wasted there were around fifty red beams the same size surrounding Alina from every direction at different times. As Alina cut through all of them efficiently with her sword, Aliester said a spell: "des re e protect." A dark force field appeared around him. After the red beams ceased, Neil began to walk up to the two demons in the dark abyss. "Why didn't you run away?" said Alina. "I'd rather finish what I've started," said Neil. "You're too cocky," said Alina. "You're in my world now. I have nothing to worry about," said Neil as he began shifting his surroundings until it was just him and Alina. He then flipped a quarter, and the more Alina looked at it, time moved slower and slower until she was in a new location with every flip of the coin. She found herself on a battlefield — she was an assassin, and she had just killed four babies of a royal bloodline. "Get her! She's over here!" a man yelled. She ran and ran like never before, but she was already injured and eventually caught up to. There were three men stabbing her relentlessly with sharpened knives in her eyes, ears — anything you can think of. All you could hear were the traumatic screams of a little girl who didn't know what she had done wrong. As she died she slowly dozed off and was falling down to hell thinking about all the times she had done something wrong. She heard her father's voice speak; his voice echoed, "You're a monster — how could you kill your own mother?" But as she fell she smiled with a sinister look. "Neat trick. You wanna see my power now? Legendary magic," she said. "What is that?" said Neil. "Los ve e re terror," said Alina.

Neil was in a completely different universe just floating into nothingness, but soon after something appeared. It was a light. He gazed at the light for a brief moment, until he realized what he was looking at wasn't a light — it was an eye. That eye soon became many eyes until there were eight in total. Those eyes grew legs and Neil finally realized he was looking at a spider the size of a planet. He then saw more lights and they were all moving toward him. They seemed slow at first, but the closer they got the faster. In a flash of light there were around fifty planet-sized spiders twirling his flesh while the first spider spoke in tongues. Neil fainted at the sight and pure agony, then woke up and passed out again, but one time he woke up and wasn't screaming; he wasn't even shocked anymore. So the first spider said in Alina's voice, "Why are you not screaming?" Neil responded with, "When will you finally learn that I control reality?" Then suddenly Aliester says, "Alina, you fool." "Huh?" she says as reality changes back to normal and she's standing with her own sword stabbed in her back — she falls to her knees. "But how?" she said. "I was never there," said Neil. He then splits her in half, ensuring her death. "You are not a wise one, boy. I've seen your death a million times over. I'd like to see you try that on me," said Aliester as he stood up to fight his opponent.
