Ruby's POV
"So what exactly happened to me?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.
"You were shot, remember?" His tone was careful, measured. "Everything's fine now. You're recovering well."
Something didn't add up. I studied his face, searching for answers. "If it was just a gunshot wound, why did you need to give me your blood directly? Couldn't any donor have worked?"
"Because I chose not to let anyone else." His gaze held mine with that familiar intensity. "Are you unhappy with how things turned out?"
My mind felt clouded, thoughts scattered like puzzle pieces I couldn't fit together. I wasn't sure about anything anymore.
The door opened and a doctor entered, followed by several nurses. They moved efficiently around us, checking monitors and reviewing our vital signs before finally disconnecting the transfusion equipment.
"The procedure was successful. Miss Ross is now stable," the doctor announced, offering Elias a reassuring smile.
