Ruby's POV
"Ruby! Are you alright?"
Elias rushed toward me, pulling me to my feet. Cloe struggled up beside me, wincing as she dusted herself off.
"What the hell happened?" His eyebrows drew together as he searched my face for answers.
"It's nothing," I whispered, but the words caught in my throat. "What were you two discussing just now? What's wrong with me?"
"You were listening in?" Bonnie arched one perfectly sculpted eyebrow.
Cloe shot daggers at her before whirling around to face Elias. "If you weren't keeping Ruby in the dark, we wouldn't need to spy on your conversations. So cut the crap and tell us what's happening to her. Is she dying?"
Elias's hands framed my face like he was trying to shield me from reality itself. His voice dropped to that gentle tone he used when he thought I might break. "There's nothing for you to worry about. Just keep following what the doctor tells you and everything will be fine."
