His agonized scream tore through the air like a wounded beast, and something twisted painfully in my chest.
"Why are you still defending her? What could possibly be worth all of this?" The words exploded from me before I could stop them.
Edward had been Elias's most trusted guard. He'd climbed the ranks through skill and dedication, with nothing but promise stretching before him.
Now he was throwing everything away for Bonnie.
That manipulative bitch. That cold, calculating woman who wouldn't shed a single tear if Edward bled out right here. How could he be so blind to what he was sacrificing?
Edward spat blood and managed a twisted grin. "You couldn't possibly understand. You have no idea what Lady Bonnie and I share. You're nothing but a fortune hunter, like every other woman who circles around powerful men for their wealth and status."
