As I descend the two-storey staircase of the house, my eyes wander around. Candles are lit, their warm yellow light dancing in the corners of the room. It is not silent; there is a warmth filled with tones, sounds and laughter.
''Happy birthday, Kinyel!''
''Happy birthday, Kinyel!''
The voices are loud and cheerful. I try to distinguish my mum and dad's voices. My dad comes first. He walks over to me with big, strong but reassuring steps and hugs me. ''Here's your present'' he says, handing me a package. I hold it with my small hands, excitement bubbling inside me. ''Thank you, Dad!'' I say, my eyes sparkling.
At that moment, my mother makes a soft ''Ahem...'' sound. My eyes turn to her and she approaches me too. She picks me up, hugs me gently and gives me my present. ''Thank you, Mum'' I say. We look into each other's eyes and smile together.
We move to the table. On my plate are pieces of meat as big as my hand. I touch them with my fingers, take a bite. They're tough but tasty. My mum and dad look at me, smiling. I smile back. There's a flutter inside me; today is a different day... I'm five years old
I can't hide my curiosity. ''Mum... how can you do magic?''I ask.
My mother looks at me, stroking my hair, and smiles softly: ''You are actually a noble child, Kinyel. And don't forget, I am also a noble; my blood and my talents give us these opportunities.''
My eyes widen, my curiosity grows. ''Is that so... what about father?''
My father speaks in a serious and stern voice: ''Whether one is noble or not... it doesn't matter. A person is a person, Kinyel. Power, blood, or title... these are just names.''
A question pops into my mind: 'Then why is there such a thing as class difference?' But I don't say anything, I keep it inside.
After dinner, unable to hide my curiosity, I ask one more thing: 'Mum... I want to go out into the garden!'
My mother shakes her head slightly, her voice soft and gentle: 'It's evening now, Kinyel. I don't want you to go out into the garden just yet. But you can help clear the table, and then maybe you can go another time.'
I go straight to the kitchen. I gather the plates and small pieces with my hands, my mother standing beside me. 'Thank you, Mum,' I say.
After a while, I ask curiously, 'Mum, what's your name?'
She answers with a smile, 'Elaria Thorn.'
After dinner, I am taken to the bedroom. I sit next to my father, leaning against his stomach. I feel comfortable and safe. 'Dad, what's your name?' I ask.
'Darian Thorn,' he says. Firm but loving.
And there it is, the Book of the Thoryx Way in front of me. My father opens the page and murmurs from it. His voice is full of seriousness:
'The Book of Thoryx... teaches you to fight like a true warrior. Strength, discipline, courage... every step is a test, son.'
I ask curiously: 'Dad... are there other sword books?'
My father looks into my eyes, smiling: 'Yes, son... there are other paths, other books too.'
'What are they, Father?'
'Tomorrow, son... tomorrow you will see,' he says.
My mother extinguishes the candle's flame. A slight silence... curiosity and excitement grow inside me. From far away outside, the sound of a ship can be heard. I prick up my ears; it sounds like my father's voice.
Slowly, I close my eyes. I whisper to myself: 'I'll probably see fish in my dream tonight...'
And my small body, safe beside my father, wrapped in my mother's warmth, with the Book of the Thoryx Path before me, surrenders to the night with a dream-filled curiosity.
When I woke up in the morning, I saw no one with me. I stood up and looked out.
'My father is continuing his sword exercises, I thought, '.
Seriously strange. If I did the same thing every day, I would get tired after a while.
Anyway, I said, I made a slight 'offf' sound.
I reached the other room and looked at the sword path with the book of magic.
'For now, the magic is better heralde,' I whispered.
As I went downstairs, I saw my mother adding something to the big cauldron at the beginning of the fire in the kitchen.
'I guess is making jam, I thought, '.
I immediately shouted at my mother:
"Good morning, anne!"
He looked at me, his eyes softened.
"Good morning, dear," said in his normal voice.
He looked at me and asked:
"Are you going out into the garden with the book?"
"Yes, mom. I'm going to ask my dad to read the book, I said " and I went out into the garden without waiting for an answer.
My father noticed me immediately. He waved the sword to the ground, a little to the ground.
"Good morning, Kinyel.." said.
Looking at my hand, you want me to read "Books, right?" said.
"Yes, daddy," I said briefly.
He came up to me and took the book from me. He looked at the covers, then at me again.
"Sorcery mu.." said.
He looked at me with his green eyes somewhat disappointingly and said "Gel,".
My father immediately put me on one leg.
'My father looks longer than 180', I thought, '.
My father said before he opened the book:
"Wizardry has 8 rankings."
When he opened the book, I saw posts with 2 pages, 4'.
'These are rankings, I thought, '.
"Boy, these:
Novice
Apprentice
Master Candidate
Master
Magic Manager
Prince/Prince of Magic
Magic Emperor
God of magic," said.
Then he looked at me:
"Each sorting ends as early, intermediate, advanced as three stages. In general, sorcerers, nobles and people who have books or teachers at a young age are both rare and small in number because they have increased their meaning since childhood. Because what makes a group is sorcerers."
