"The main purpose of the academy was to learn about the gifts brought about by the blessings. The diminishing of bestia came later" said Pyralex.
Confused because this wasn't what she was taught, Lune stared at Pyralex.
Seeing her reaction Pyralex asked "Do you know when the academy was created?"
"The academy was created two centuries ago." said Lune.
"Good." Pyralex said nodding.
"Then do you know when the bestia was first spotted?" Pyralex asked and Lune faltered.
"Legends say that the bestia were ordinary creatures that lived outside the walls of Alvonia. Bestowed with blessings of their own, the Bestiae were once known as the guardians of Alvonia." Pyralex said and Lune stared in shock.
"With them as guardians, Alvonia enjoyed peace for a millenia but on a particular day black smoke slithered among their midst and a bestia became infected." said Pyralex.
"Fueled by the black smoke the bestia killed not only humans but several bestiae as well." said Pyralex.
"In order to stop the bestia from killing more of her people the Goddess issued blessings to humans.," said Pyralex.
"With the blessing bestowed by the Goddess the humans killed the infected bestia and the academy was created." Pyralex said and Lune stared in awe as the story was taking shape.
"As I said before the bestiae were the guardians of Alvonia but with the infection becoming worse each passing year, the academy created a group called them the Makarios and tasked them with diminishing the bestiae" said Pyralex.
"What is a Makarios?" asked Lune.
"A Makarios is the title given to the most talented individuals of the academy." said Pyralex.
"A lot of people get into the academy with hopes of being one but only ten are chosen to be a Makarios." Pyralex said and Lune's eyes grew to the size of two full moons.
"What happens after you become a Makarios?" Lune asked in wonder.
"You subjugate the bestiae solo or you join a guild." said Pyralex.
"What is a guild?" Lune asked in excitement.
"The Makarios are deployed during monster waves and though they are strong, there are limitations for just one person. A guild was created to reduce the burden on a single Makarios and maximise the attack power of a group." Pyralex said and Lune's eyes sparkled.
"The original intent of a guild was to combine the power of the four blessings of the spirit but in recent years several guilds have adopted the ideology that a guild is meant to foster only one blessing." Pyralex said looking at Lune carefully.
Tilting her head to the side Lune wondered why they would think that.
"I thought the blessings were given at random so we are not separated by our gifts." Lune said, looking at Pyralex.
"So why will there be guilds that favour only one?" Lune asked in confusion.
Understanding her confusion, Pyralex sat back in his chair.
"Some will tell you that it's only right that like minded people influence each other, others will tell you that there are things that only people in the same situation will know and others will tell you that you that some blessings aren't qualified." Pyralex said with a hum.
"Qualified?" Lune asked in confusion.
"If you are talented enough to become a Makarios amongst hundreds of people doesn't that make you qualified!" Lune asked in frustration.
"Certain people believe that some blessings are better used elsewhere." Pyralex said and Lune snapped her head up.
"And what do you think?" Lune asked with fire in her eyes.
"I think-" Pyralex said smiling.
"That they don't know what they are talking about." said Pyralex.
Satisfied that someone else shares her opinions, Lune changed the topic.
"So are classes in the academy based on your level of attunement?" asked Lune.
"For the first three years, Yes." Pyralex said, nodding.
"In the academy, students are placed in their respective levels for the first three years so that they can learn more about their gifts and how to use it but after learning separately for the first three years, students from different levels are grouped together based on their strength and intelligence." said Pyralex.
"But-" Lune said before stopping.
"Go on." Pyralex said encouragingly.
"To be able to learn more about our gifts wouldn't we require four different teachers for each blessing of the spirit?" Lune asked and Pyralex nodded with a smile.
"The academy provides teachers for every attunement level because they believe that no blessing is weak." Pyralex said with pride.
Glowing with pride herself, Lune was about to ask another question but stopped short when the doors burst open. Wondering who it was Lune turned her head to see her mother in a cream ball gown decorated with flower embroideries at the top and bottom with short puffy hands as sleeves.
With her hands on her hips, the Queen Elithia stared at the pair of individuals in front of her.
"What do you think the time is?" Queen Elithia said, staring daggers at Pyralex.
"Just before the stroke of nine?" Pyralex guessed.
"And you didn't think to let my poor baby out to eat?" The queen said, stomping towards Pyralex.
"Wait let me tell you something!" Pyralex said standing up and using the chair he was sitting on like a shield.
"You have a curious child." Pyralex said pointing to Lune with the legs of the chair.
"She kept asking me questions!" Pyralex said in an accusatory tone and Lune looked at him with disbelief.
Sputtering Lune said "I did not!"
"You did too!" Pyralex said like a little child.
"And you were about to ask another before your mon walked in." Pyralex said pointing an accusing finger at Lune.
Lune betrayed by her uncle could only open and close her mouth like a fish.
Having nothing to say, Lune fumed silently as her mother huffed and dragged her away.
