Chapter 14 - 14

The violent scene had completely terrified every parent and student nearby. Ye Fengwu's ferocity was unlike anything they had ever seen.

"Now… it's your turn," Ye Fengwu said, his voice icy and threatening as he turned toward the remaining parents and children.

"Dad… I'm scared… I'm scared… boohoo…"

"Boohoo… I want to go home…"

The children who had just mocked Jing Si erupted into uncontrollable sobs. Two of them trembled violently. It was the first time their young minds realized that the quiet, bullied girl they had tormented had a father—one who was like a demon.

"We'll apologize! We'll apologize!"

One parent hurriedly grabbed their child and rushed toward Qin Qinghan. The others, seeing this, didn't dare hesitate, dragging their own kids forward to apologize as well.

"Jing Si's mom… I… I'm so sorry. I didn't raise my child properly. Please forgive us—don't let your husband hurt us!"

Tears streamed down their faces as they bowed and begged. Five or six parents fell to their knees, desperate to placate Qin Qinghan and avoid provoking Ye Fengwu's wrath.

Qin Qinghan's emotions were a storm of surprise, relief, and disbelief. She had never imagined anyone apologizing to her—let alone because of Ye Fengwu, the man who had forcefully inserted himself into her life.

Still, she was soft-hearted. With a flat expression, she said, "Go. I hope you truly teach your children well from now on."

"Yes, yes… we will," they mumbled, fleeing awkwardly.

One of the sleazy men—the same one who had complained to Liu Fu moments ago—approached Qin Qinghan, beginning to stammer, "J-Jing… we're sorry… our kid—"

Before he could finish, a massive hand gripped the back of his collar.

"I said… lose two, gain three," came Ye Fengwu's voice from behind, cold and teasing.

The man shivered violently, nearly wetting himself. He had thought it was just "losing one, gaining two"—now it was three?

His young son, witnessing his father's fate, froze and sank to the ground, trembling. Qin Qinghan, seeing the child, intervened. "Enough… you'll scar the boy."

The man's face contorted in disbelief. "B-Brother… yes… my son is still young… he doesn't understand. If you hit me, it'll traumatize him."

Ye Fengwu's icy voice cut through him: "Traumatize? Did your son think about the trauma he caused my daughter when he humiliated her?"

The man and Qin Qinghan were rendered speechless. Jing Si, only seven, had endured daily humiliation for eight years. Ye Fengwu couldn't even begin to imagine the depth of the scars left on her young mind.

Then Ye Fengwu turned to the boy sitting on the ground, his voice calm but deadly: "Little bastard… you know why your father got hit? Because you did wrong. He failed as a parent—he didn't guide you onto the path of decency."

With that, Ye Fengwu's hand struck the man across the face. Jaw dislocated. Half his teeth shattered.

Qin Qinghan covered Jing Si's eyes, turning her face away.

"Let's go," Ye Fengwu said calmly, patting Qin Qinghan on the back. "Before the cops arrive, we leave."

Even the boy, stunned, seemed to understand why his father had been punished, momentarily forgetting his tears.

As Ye Fengwu guided Qin Qinghan and Jing Si into the car, Principal Liu finally managed to stand and began calling the police.

"Hello… I'm… principal of South City Elementary… someone's… beaten people at our school."

"What? Speak clearly! Who are you?"

"I'm… principal…"

"Principal what?"

"P-Pri… principal!"

"Principal what?!"

"Damn it! My teeth are gone—I can't explain! Hurry and come arrest him!"

"You dare…"

In the car, Ye Fengwu's expression was grim as he drove the worn Chevrolet. Qin Qinghan and Jing Si huddled together in the backseat.

Through the rearview mirror, Ye Fengwu caught sight of tears glistening in Qin Qinghan's eyes. To his surprise, little Jing Si reached up and gently wiped them away.

"Mom, don't cry. I'm not sad," Jing Si said in her innocent, tender voice.

Qin Qinghan broke. Hands pressed to her mouth, she tried to stifle her sobs, but hot tears streamed freely. For eight long years, she had endured mockery and humiliation—but now, seeing her daughter suffer in the same way, her heart shattered.

Ye Fengwu gripped the steering wheel tighter, guilt and fury mixing into a single resolve. From now on, anyone who dared humiliate his woman or daughter—even a single word—would be crushed.

"Why did you send her to that school?" he muttered through gritted teeth. "Knowing what she endures every day, I want to blow the whole place up."

Hearing this, Qin Qinghan frowned sharply. Even Jing Si glanced nervously at Ye Fengwu.

"Can you… not say things like that in front of Jing Si?" Qin Qinghan said firmly—a rare display of strength from her.

Ye Fengwu, realizing he'd overstepped, fell silent.

Qin Qinghan then looked down at Jing Si. "Jing Si, we're not going back to that school. Mom will handle transferring you to Haihua Elementary. No one there knows us."

Jing Si pouted. "But… the tuition is so expensive. We can't afford it. It's fine, Mom. I'm not scared of them anymore."

Hearing her maturity at such a young age, Ye Fengwu's heart ached.

"Mom closed a big deal today," Qin Qinghan said softly. "We won't have to worry about money anymore."

Jing Si's eyes lit up. "Really?"

Qin Qinghan smiled stiffly, though worry still lingered in her gaze. Only now did Ye Fengwu understand: money had been the real reason Qin Qinghan hadn't been able to send Jing Si to a better school.

Returning to their cramped 60-square-meter apartment, they found Qin Qinghan's parents absent.

"Where are your parents?" Ye Fengwu asked. "It's almost dinner time—shopping?"

Shaking her head, Qin Qinghan replied, "They went to play mahjong. They won't be home for dinner."

Ye Fengwu frowned. "So the only person supporting this family is you… and they gamble?"

Qin Qinghan, ever patient, explained, "It's just neighborhood games. They don't lose much."

What she didn't tell him: her parents often lost, taking three thousand yuan or more from her each month, adding to her mortgage and household expenses. That's why she hadn't been able to send Jing Si to Haihua Elementary—a prestigious private school costing over 100,000 yuan annually.

Her worry lingered even after returning home. Finally, she turned to Ye Fengwu, her voice tinged with concern: "You beat people today. They'll call the cops soon."

Ye Fengwu lit a cigarette, exhaling calmly. "Some trouble, yes—but I have bigger concerns right now."

Then, his expression softened. "I'm starving. I haven't eaten all day."
