The sky gradually darkened, and people in the school had almost all left. By the time it was completely black, the school building was unnaturally quiet.
Arashi knew that besides him there were two other people in the school building now: Sasaki and Iguchi. Those two fearless fools were tonight going to open the sealed Ryomen Sukuna finger.
At this moment, in the pitch-dark teaching building, at the end of the corridor, a faint candlelight flickered inside the glass.
Sasaki and Iguchi sat facing each other, a candle on the table illuminating a small area and making the surrounding atmosphere dim and mysterious.
At this moment Sasaki was holding an oval object wrapped in strange characters. Under the candlelight the characters dimmed and brightened; of course this strange scene could not be seen by Sasaki and Iguchi.
"It feels a bit tight, can't get it off," Sasaki found that this thing wrapped in paper wasn't as easy to unwrap as imagined, it seemed stuck together.
Iguchi watched Sasaki's serious look and said, "Was it necessary to come all the way in to do this?"
Iguchi didn't feel anything special; today's business was no different from usual. This little trinket looked mysterious, but not so ceremonious.
"Turn on the light then," Iguchi suddenly stood up, ready to switch on the light.
Just then Sasaki interrupted, "No, don't, don't ruin the mood. Feeling the thrill is the essence of the Occult Research Club. Anyway, nothing's going to happen."
"Uh, fine," Iguchi resignedly sat back down.
"Hey, I got it off!", Sasaki's words made the previously seated Iguchi stand up again. He wanted to see what the thing wrapped in cloth was.
Sasaki began to unwrap carefully. Although she knew nothing would happen, the atmosphere suddenly turned strange and she couldn't help swallowing.
Layer after layer, circle after circle, the yellowing cloth strips grew fewer and piled up on the table.
Finally, after peeling it open, inside was a purple-black FINGER. The two of them were stunned.
"A human's… finger?"
"Is it real?"
"It's real."
Right then Arashi quickly opened the Occult Research Club door and shouted to the two inside, "YOU TWO GET OUT OF HERE, NOW!"
"Ah? You're… Arashi?", Sasaki and Iguchi recognized the transfer student who had come to school; after all, Arashi was quite popular in the first year. Although he usually appeared silent and aloof, that didn't stop others from paying attention to him.
Just then the candle flame on the table suddenly went out, and in the next moment a chilling crackling sound came from within.
"What's happening?"
"RUN!", Arashi grabbed Sasaki's clothes and Iguchi's clothes with both hands and flung them outside; the two of them fell out like that.
"That hurts…", Sasaki clutched her shoulder. She was about to ask Arashi why he treated her like that when she saw countless hands and tentacles writhing in the pitch-black room, crawling toward the outside.
At that moment Sasaki knew she had caused trouble. It seemed they were in big trouble. Iguchi's legs trembled as he pressed himself against the wall, momentarily frozen.
"If you two don't want to drag me down, get out of here fast. I can leave on my own!", Arashi stood between them and shouted.
"Uh… o-okay," Iguchi and Sasaki didn't know what to say. The previously useless feeling in their legs seemed to gain strength because of Arashi's tall figure.
Iguchi was a man after all; no matter how scared he was, he couldn't just stand there. He helped Sasaki up and the two ran quickly down the stairs.
When he saw them leave Arashi breathed a sigh of relief. At that moment the cursed spirit had already grabbed the fallen black-purple finger and shoved it toward its mouth.
"You want the finger that's here?", Arashi sneered, "Cursed energy armor."
Cursed energy surged out of Arashi in an instant, forming a layer of armor shaped by cursed energy that covered his whole body. His right hand suddenly shot forward to grab.
Clack-Clack!
Dozens of disgusting hands immediately grabbed at Arashi's outstretched hand, trying to tear it apart.
What the cursed spirit didn't expect was that not only was it difficult to rip Arashi's hand, but even stopping him was hard.
Arashi swiftly snatched the black-purple finger, then jumped and kicked the cursed spirit in the face, "Blue-Black Flash!"
BANG!
"AAAAHHH~", the cursed spirit howled in pain, fear filling its eyes as it dissolved back into the wall.
Arashi looked at the black-purple finger for a moment and gave a mysterious smile, "Is this Sukuna's finger? Fine, I'll take the fingernail."
In this bizarre environment, using the "special ability" he gained after reincarnation, Arashi pried off Sukuna's finger nail, something Sukuna's finger could not normally be separated from. There was a snap, and the black fingernail really fell off. (A/N: Don't get hung up on this part, only the protagonist can do this.)
In theory a Special-Grade cursed object cannot be destroyed or separated, but Arashi actually did it.
Breaking this world's common sense is usually what people like him do. Though truly destroying a Special-Grade cursed object is impossible, using a "special ability" to disassemble and absorb it is possible.
"Hey, take that cursed spirit from before, this one's for you!", Arashi tossed Sukuna's finger to the cursed spirit; he only needed the nails. The rest of the finger he left for the soon-to-arrive Itadori Yuji.
Arashi quickly leapt out the window, climbed onto the roof, and ran off into the distance.
At that moment Fushiguro Megumi and Itadori Yuji arrived at the school. They could clearly sense the cursed energy from a nearby building.
"It looks like it's already been unsealed. Wait here, I'll go in," Fushiguro instructed Itadori, then alone scaled the iron gate and rushed inside. He didn't know if it would be too late to save those two.
Just as Fushiguro was about to rush in, he saw Sasaki and Iguchi stumbling down the stairs in a panic, Sasaki's eyes brimming with tears.
"Save Arashi, senpai, he… he's still upstairs!", Sasaki's tears couldn't be held back and she began to cry.
If her impulsiveness today caused Arashi to die, she would feel guilty for the rest of her life.
"What happened? How could Arashi be up there?", Itadori Yuji quickly climbed over the gate and supported Sasaki-senpai.
Why had Arashi, who insisted on not joining any clubs, ended up in the Occult Research Club when trouble happened?
"I… I don't know. Go up and save him, there's a terrifying monster up there," Sasaki's speech was clumsy.
"Stay here and take care of them, I'll go up and check," Fushiguro dashed up the stairs. If someone was up there, it was probably already dire.
Sure enough, when Fushiguro reached the upper floor he saw a disgusting cursed spirit, but did not see the person the woman had mentioned, Arashi.
"Was he eaten? Damn it!", Fushiguro spread his hands, then quickly formed a hand sign, "Divine Dogs."
In an instant the empty space stirred up black matter and quickly formed two wolf-like dogs.
One white, one black, they bared sharp fangs, ready to attack.
The cursed spirit, which had just eaten Sukuna's finger, had thought the person who hit it earlier had come back and shivered reflexively; cursed spirits can also feel fear, especially the more intelligent ones.
Now it found that it wasn't that terrifying person, but someone else who had come.
That made it less afraid, so it immediately mobilized surrounding curses to attack this newcomer, trying to make up for the humiliation of being hit earlier.
