Chapter 6 - Avis Unit II

(Hunter's POV)

"Nice!" Gemma said from atop the cliff, "You definitely got all of the Bulaqchi!"

I was standing next to some fulgurite formations, an entire group of Bulaqchi were on the ground in front of me. Gemma had asked Sasha, one of the Handlers, to authorize a quick hunt. There were some pest issues that were bothering Kunafa, so I was told to come and deal with it.

It wasn't much of an issue, using the Longsword and cutting the bugs down. It was surprisingly easy against them. All I did was use overhead slashes and was surprised I could do the Spirit Slashes so easily.

These were just bugs, so I really wasn't impressed by myself. Although, they were bigger in person, the size of a dog. It is quite unsettling when you think of it, but there are much larger creatures in this world.

"Hm...." I said as I sheathed the Longsword, "Does my body have some sort of memory muscle? Or is it automatically interpreting the moves I already know?"

I simply think of what moves to do and I try to do them, which my body easily flows into it. It is quite hard to explain, but that is how I feel is the case.

"You're quite good at slaying bugs." I heard Sasha said, "But if what Gemma says is true, you are much more skilled than that."

I looked up to see Sasha looking down at me, holding her book and quill.

"Well...." I said as I faced them, "I feel like I need to readjust my body to combat."

"What are you suggesting?" Sasha asked, "You want to go and hunt a monster? I haven't authorized that."

"He's a member of the Shadow Unit, Sasha, he can handle something like that." Gemma told him

"I still don't know about any of that." Sasha looked at her, "It's all too fishy."

I frowned, "Why would I lie?" I asked, "I don't remember much, but the Guild has confirmed my identity."

"Not much is known about the Shadow Unit." Sasha told me, "It was considered just a rumor, the unit that handles Elder Dragons. Do you not understand how hard it is to believe? A group specialized in handling natural disasters like those? And you just don't remember anything?"

I sort of expected some people to not buy the story, but I feel like the System itself is doing whatever it can for me to integrate into the world without suspicion. Even with the Guild confirming my identity and associating me with an Unit, some people might not buy it. I am still a complete stranger to them, which is not a lie at all.

"Well...." Gemma said with a frown

"And not just that!" Sasha said as she placed her hands on her hips, "You mean to tell me that such an Elite Unit was caught up in a mere shipwreck and most of them died?!"

I sighed, "Do we know the nature of the wreck? I don't remember, so I can't really tell you much." I said, "But does the Guild know?"

"Well...." Sasha frowned, "No...."

"Something tells me that it wasn't just an accident." I said, "What if we were attacked? Ever thought of that?"

"Makes it even more suspicious." Sasha scowled, "You see-"

"Okay, Sasha, that's enough." Gemma said with a smile, "I get that you're skeptical, but cut him some slack. Besides, you need to....wait, is that a Chatacabra?"

I turned to see a Chatacabra roaming about, its mouth open and tongue hanging out.

"That must be the Chatacabra that has been harassing the villagers lately." Sasha said, "Aside from the other monsters that have caused them trouble, that one is an even bigger troublemaker."

The Chatacabra spotted us, and it began to snort viciously, slamming its arms on the ground. Something definitely has it agitated; it could attack at any moment.

"Should I handle it?" I asked as I placed my hand on the longsword's handle

"Do not slay it." Sasha said, "Capture it; the Guild authorizes the hunt of that Chatacabra. We will relocate it to the grasslands afterwards."

I nodded, "Right."

*************

"Well, against an actual large monster, you aren't that bad." Sasha said as she stood next to Gemma and I, "Not bad at all."

I nodded, "Hm."

In front of us, the Chatacabra was on the ground, bound by the shock trap. It didn't take me that long to get it to the point of capturing; I was able to dodge most of its attack and countering with my own, feeling the way my blade cut through its hide and plates. It did get me with one of his smacks, which sent me crashing down.

Surprisingly, I was able to get back up without an issue and got back to fighting.

"So, you're going to call someone to relocate it?" I asked Sasha

"Yes, they're on the way." She said, "I fired a flare when you were fighting it."

"Hey guys!" I heard a voice call out

I looked to see Solar and Alma riding towards us on their Seikrets.

"A chatacabra." Solar said as they reached us, "That's one of the other monsters that the villagers have been complaining about."

Alma nodded and looked at me, "I take it you handled it?"

I nodded, "Yes."

"He was quite good." Gemma smiled, "A natural hunter indeed."

"So you are indeed a Guild Hunter." Alma said, "Well, that is good to know. We will gladly have another hunter among our ranks."

"Hm." Sasha looked at me, "He's not terrible, I can say that much."

"Haha...." Solar chuckled, "We should head back to camp."

I looked at the Chatacabra, "Can we not harvest some of its parts?" I asked, "It's trapped, some of its wounded limbs might shed off some bits of pieces of its hide."

"We'll let the others handle that." Sasha said, "Why?"

I looked at Gemma, "Is it possible to make a weapon from its harvested parts?"

"Yea, sure." Gemma said, "I have the schematics for most Monster weapons so far in the Forbidden Lands."

I nodded, "Thanks."

Solar looked at me, "There are more Monsters have been riled up throughout the Plains." she said, "I figure we should handle them before things get too out of control. But most of them will be capture hunts, right Alma?"

"Yes." Alma said, "Something is causing them to react strangely. Anyways, we should continue this debriefing at Camp."

"Let us go."
