(Hunter's POV)
"Can I use your training area?" I asked Olivia, who was standing next to a tent, "I need to try some things out."
"Hm?" She looked at me, "Sure. That's fine by me."
"Meowster, you need to test your skills?" I heard Kkuro say, "You look strong, the truth is."
I looked at him, "Yea, I need to get my body adjusted." I said, "Trying out my weapons in the training area might do the trick."
"So you've hired a Palico." Olivia said, "That's a good thing. They are very helpful during hunts."
"Meow!" Kkuro said, "I will try my best to be helpful to my Hunter!"
Olivia nodded, "Good." she said, "Hunter, you can try the training area. It's by the end, past the researcher's tent."
"Thanks." I said as I walked past her, "Let's go, Kkuro."
"Alright." Kkuro followed, "Meowster, which monster are we doing to hunt first?"
"Hm?" I asked as we walked
"I overheard Alma that you might join Solar and the others on the plains." He said, "I am wondering what Monster we will tackle next!"
"Hm." I said, "I will help Olivia with the Balahara problem."
"Alright, I'll be ready." He said
"They're providing us with a seikret, which will make things much easier." I said as we reached the entrance to the training area, "They're quite convenient."
"Meow, that's good....." He said
We entered the training area, which was identical to what I'd remember about it. The dummy was at the end of the area as some palicos seemed to be working on it.
As I stopped, I looked around to see if there was anybody else in the area. It didn't seem like that was the case, so I had the chance to check my System.
The System appeared, showing the Haki Tree.
[Haki Tree]
- Armament
- Observation
-
I'm going to assume that Conqueror's is not something I can get off the bat. But for now, I'll have to make do with what I am given.
I clicked on Armament, and the page switched:
[Armament Haki]
- Coat Your Weapon With Armament Haki, Enhancing Your Attacks. If Using Shielded Weapons, The First Tier of Armament Coating Will Only Allow Coating Either The Weapon Or The Shield.
- Armament Coating Will Be Visualized By The Weapon Affected, Turning a Pitch Black Color.
- Cost of First Tier Is (1 Point)
I clicked on it, "Okay....." I muttered to myself, "Might as well...."
Then, the page switched over to the Observation Haki.
[Observation Haki]
- Allows the User To Sense Presences Around The User In A Set Range. It Acts Similarly To a Radar On The First Tier, Being A Sixth Sense When Activated.
- Cost of First Tier is (1 Point)

I nodded, "Okay...." I said when clicking on it, "So I got both....pretty basic, I guess..."
"Meow?" Kkuro asked, "What are you talking about?"
I looked at him, "Don't worry about it." I said as I walked over to the dummy, "Time to start training."
"Alright!" He said, "What weapon are you going to try out?"
"I want to test the Longsword's advanced techniques." I told him as I drew the Longsword, "I want to see if I can properly perform the Foresight Slash, Crimson Slash, and Helmbreaker."
"I understand." Kkuro said, "I will watch patiently then."
I nodded, "Alright."
**************
I was panting, "Man...." I said as I held the Longsword on my hands, "That was quite a workout....."
It has been at least two hours since I was constantly testing out the Longsword's moveset, trying to get used to it. I have noticed that the spirit gauge wasn't really a thing, no matter how long I was using the spirit slashes. I was pretty sure I was performing them right, my body flowing into it naturally.
My guess is that the strength of the Longsword, or most weapons, will be affected by my haki. Does that mean that I can just swing the Hammer around, coating it with Armament and smashing monsters' heads to the ground? If that's the case, I can definitely do that without issue.
I wiped some sweat from my cheek as Kkuro purred in the rock next to me, "Hm....." I said, "Using Helmbreaker and following it up the Spirit Release while coating it with Haki is probably a good option....then there's the Iai slash..."
Using the Longsword as it is, using the Foresight to avoid damage, not through I-Frames, but by dodging it and following it up with the slash, is probably ideal for me. But to get a hang of the advanced techniques, like constantly using the Iai counters to humiliate the monsters, will be a bit rough. If I can combine my Haki with that, I can probably be a menace with it.
But for now, I will try to focus on using the Longsword, using the Hammer as a way to bash the monsters with my Armament Haki.
"You need a break, Meowster!" Kkuro said, "We should get something to eat. I'm actually hungry."
"Hm...." I said as I sheathed the Longsword, "Fine, that's a good idea."
We exited the Training Area and made our way to the ration's centers, seeing that there was a bbq pit already set up. As I walked towards that, I saw Olivia walking towards me.
"Hunter." She said, "I hate to interrupt you if you are about to take a rest, but the Balahara pack has just been spotted."
I looked at her, "Oh, okay." I said, "Sorry about taking long, had to get my muscle memory back."
"Understood." Olivia said, "Solar and the others have gone ahead to deal with the Quematrice over by the grasslands. The Balahara are in the desert, we should go and deal with them. I will head out for now, I suggest you take a quick snack and join me."
"Yea, just a quick one." I said with a nod
"I will not engage too recklessly without backup." She turned around and began to walk away, "I will expect you, Hunter."
"Meow!" Kkuro said, "We best get a bite to eat before heading out, Meowster."
"You're right." I said as I turned to face him
He was handing me a cooked piece of mutton, "Here."
I blinked as I took it, "S-So fast?"
"I'm a quick cooker." He chuckled, "Meow, I'm useful alright!"
I smiled, "That much is true." I said, "Alright, let's eat and then we head out."
"We have Balahara to hunt."
