Chapter 10 - A walk in the market

After breakfast, I felt a little uneasy probably because I had overeaten. So, I decided to go for a walk with Xiaomei.

She is younger than me. Oh, I don't know my age. I suddenly turned and faced her direction. Xiaomei looked shocked by my sudden turn and stared at me.

I smiled at her and asked, "Sorry if I startled you. But I want to ask something."

She was taken aback by my question.

"How old am I?" I asked.

"You will be seventeen this year," she replied softly.

After listening to her answer, I started walking again. We arrived at the same garden where I went yesterday. I sat on the bench near the pond. I looked around - this place always made me feel comfortable. I quietly smiled.

Then I called Xiaomei and asked her to sit next to me.

She refused politely, saying, "No, you sit. I'm fine standing."

I didn't want to argue, so I just pretended to be angry at her. When she saw the annoyed look on my face, she suddenly sat right next to me.

I smiled at her.

"She's cute," I thought.

I patted her shoulder, saying, "That's like a good girl."

She looked at me and smiled."I have to ask you something. Will you tell me truthfully?" I asked, looking at her seriously.

She nodded.

"Tell me about myself - like what kind of person was I?"

She hesitated, her face showing a thoughtful expression.

I looked at her questioning look and said gently, "Listen, I can sense how nervous you and other servents become whenever you're around me. Like I'm going to kill you. I think I was a bad person."

She quietly thought for a moment and said" No, young miss you were not a bad person at all. You just get angry easily. "

"I'm sorry,"I said. "I shouldn't behave like that towards you. Please forgive me. Now after my memory loss I don't want to behave the same way. "

She smiled softly. "No, no, madam, you don't have to. Please don't ever say that."

"Then have you forgiven me?" I asked.

She nodded.

I excitedly hugged her. "Good! Now we are friends."

I knew she was someone I'd spend most of my time with. Being friends with her made me feel comfortable.

We sat there for quite a while. Then a thought came into my mind.

"I told Xiaomei I want to go to the market."She agreed. Then I stood up eagerlyand went to my mother(the one in this world) and told her that I wanted to go to market. She at first hesitated but then looking at my sad face she agreed. She told Xiaomei to take the carriage with us. I was excited so I hug her. I know she really loved this girl. When we left the house the driver was waiting for us. We entered the carriage and asked him to take us to market.

The moment we arrived, I asked Xiaomei to stop the carriage at the entrance. The driver did exactly as Xiaomei told him.

The scene I saw after coming out of the carriage was marvelous. There was a lot of crowd around the market. Some people were there to sell things, others to buy them - and I was one of those just looking around.

Me and Xiaomei start walking. I was curious, taking in every detail. People were also looking at me. Their eyes following me. I could feel their curious gaze on me.

I asked Xiaomei, "Why are they looking at me like that?...Don't tell I was rude to all of these people too. " I was too shocked at this thought. I think this girl was quite a bitch types.

She shook her head and said, "No, young miss. Maybe you are too excited, that's why."

I touched my face and said, "Oh."

I tried to fix my expression, maybe telling them I was less thrilled. But deep down, I couldn't hide it.I was always like that, my expression were written all over my face when I get excited. I think this was due to Bollywood movies that I watch growing up.

"I think I watched Bollywood too much," I muttered to myself, smiling a little.

The moment I saw a lamb running away from its master, my heart melted.

"Awww, he's so cute!" I shouted and ran towards it. Xiaomei panicked and also ran after me.

I didn't notice the horses coming down the road. The lamb was right in the middle of it. I was so excited - back in my house, I used to have a lamb my grandfather bought for me. I loved him so much. I used to play with him all day, patting and loving him.

That memory came rushing back as I chased the little one. But the horse was coming fast, its hooves pounding the ground. The driver shouted something, but I couldn't hear. I was just focused on the lamb. I picked it up.

Xiaomei screamed behind me, "Be careful!"

The horse stopped just an inches away from me. When the person saw I was not giving him any attention and still talking to the lamb he become furious. He came down the horse and walked towards me.
