Chapter 13 - Players Continuously Shocked!

After handing the script over to S.H.I.E.L.D., Xu Dan just lay at home waiting for good news.

He had already packaged the computer version of King of Fighters and uploaded it to the internet.

He even prepared ten gigabytes of updates!

At the rate of one update per month, with one character added each time, he could relax for almost a year!

He didn't know what methods S.H.I.E.L.D. used, but for a while, CBS was almost completely dominated by advertisements for King of Fighters!

As one of the most famous television stations in America, its influence was undeniable.

Judging from the backend data, the download numbers for the computer version of King of Fighters were soaring every day.

Other game companies also seemed to have noticed the business opportunity of King of Fighters and began to imitate it, but the shoddy products they made didn't even have a chance to compare to the optimized version of King of Fighters!

Moreover, the computer version of King of Fighters had an unbeatable advantage: it was completely free!

The American game tradition was that players liked to 'buy games', or rather, it was the game companies' decisions that led this trend.

However, Xu Dan wouldn't follow their lead.

Their knock-off "King of Fighters" even charged a fee!

Wasn't this just opening an even easier path for him?

A masterpiece, the best, the original game could be played without spending a single penny.

Trash, shoddy workmanship, and high-fidelity games actually wanted money, who the hell would want to play yours!

So, in these past few days, among the top ten games on the rankings, the data for "King of Fighters" was even more massive than the sum of the other nine combined!

Thus, Xu Dan's first step in his plan was complete.

California.

After lunch.

Jerry was a homebody, but his stepfather, who was worth millions, hadn't let him starve.

Instead, he bought him whatever he wanted.

Recently, that commercial on CBS was even more entertaining than those melodramatic TV shows!

He remembered... it was called... King of Fighters!

That was obviously a game advertisement. Judging by the promotional visuals, they probably spent a billion on the CG and five cents on the actual game - probably made with their toes!

He got ready to turn on his new computer and go online to criticize it.

"King of Fighters, huh? Think you can be king just because you have fists? Have you asked my AK47?! Have you asked my Uzi submachine gun?!"

Jerry was a military enthusiast and often visited gun stores, but unfortunately, guns were the only thing his stepfather wouldn't buy him, and he couldn't afford them himself.

He dreamed constantly of dual-wielding machine guns and unleashing a torrent of fire.

Oh, that would be awesome!

As for King of Fighters?

"What the hell? How could the online reviews possibly be a perfect 10.0?! A hundred percent positive reviews?! Are these people insane?!" Jerry widened his eyes, shouting in disbelief.

Download it, definitely download it!

I don't believe it. It's impossible that everyone would like this barbaric fighting game!

That's right, close-quarters combat is something only barbarians do!

High-class people use guns! Jerry thought.

King of Fighters wasn't a large file, so it quickly downloaded onto his new computer.

"It doesn't even need to be installed? What kind of black technology is this?"

Muttering to himself, he clicked on [Start Game].

"DANG!!"

A crisp sound of clashing steel echoed, like a sword being drawn from its sheath!

That single sound stunned Jerry!

He'd never heard an opening like it!

The other games he played just had wailing screams or aggressive rock music.

His ears were practically calloused from listening!

King of Fighters – this was new!

The computer screen slowly lit up.

Countless blades were thrusting forward like a storm of wind and rain!

Jerry was startled, his body instinctively leaning back!

Then, realizing his reaction, he was embarrassed, his face flushed. Fortunately, he was alone in the room.

That blade was just too realistic!

He didn't know what kind of technology the creator had used to make it so realistic!

As the opening animation continued, he realized that all the flashes of blades he had seen were actually just one blade!

The reason he saw so many blades was because the person was swinging the blade at an extremely high speed!

This could be explained with physics!

But, was swinging a blade at the screen a little too chuuni?!

Jerry had just thought this when the game's opening animation slapped him in the face!

It turned out that the Japanese samurai with the sword was fighting someone else!

The flashes of the blade just now were used to deal with the enemy. The viewer's perspective was that of this 'enemy'!

"A battle between two people? Hero versus demon king? Heh..."

Jerry was about to mock again, but suddenly realized he'd been proven wrong again!

It wasn't a battle between just two people at all!

As the viewer's perspective changed, what gradually unfolded before the player was a magnificent epic war!

Flashing blades, shadows of swords, magic, explosions, roars...

Jerry's hand, gripping the mouse, trembled slightly.

Shocking!

What else could he say right now!

Just the opening animation alone had drawn him into that world, the virtual world belonging to the developers!

"Antarctic Studio? Is this studio in Antarctica? I wonder if there are penguins..."

Jerry swallowed hard and wiped the sweat from his hand.

[New Beginning]

[Loading Modules]

``` [Game Settings]
[Exit Game]
These four options were displayed on the computer screen.
Based on his experience as a seasoned gamer, the first option was undoubtedly to start playing. However, with such a grand game, he couldn't just jump in blindly for his first time!
The first time was so important; if he wasn't familiar with the game mode, it wouldn't be good if he got stomped right away!
So, he clicked on the second option!
"Ding!"
A crisp sound echoed, and the interface didn't lag at all, instantly jumping to another brand-new module.
This sense of flow felt really good!
The list of information in [Loading Modules] appeared.
All of this information was gray, but it didn't affect his vision.
"Mai Shiranui Swimsuit available, effects can be switched freely in the game… 88 USD?"
"Iori Yagami Crimson Moon available, special Easter eggs can be triggered in the game… 99 USD?"
"Orochi Supreme available… 100 USD?"
"Oh, God, are these game items?"
To be honest, these things were a bit expensive, but Jerry didn't lack the money.
He was just curious if these things would affect the game's balance.
However, after checking several times and reading the introductions, he realized that these only affected the player's visual experience and didn't affect the game's attributes!
That's great. Not disrupting the game's balance is what makes a good game!
If skins added attributes, then what's the point of playing such a garbage game!
