Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Traits

[Universe Forum]

[Hot][I really am a slime!]

[Hot][I'm gonna become the most powerful in the world; Believe it!]

[Hot][I am speed]

[Damnit! I lost all life on my planet to a meteor.]

[Why is being a Race Spirit so much more difficult than being a World God?!?!]

James saw this and inspected a few of the posts. The first three, despite being the most popular ones, were just filled with waste material and what the posters called me-me's. Instead, he clicked on the one about Race Spirits, and noted the information given on it.

It was written by someone called [Night Sky], and in analysed how Race Spirits were indeed far weaker than normal World Gods, and how their starting point was incredibly low compared to the latter.

[However, we should not limit our viewpoint to this low level. Instead, we must look forwards. Unlike World Gods, we can gain energy from all those of our race, which means from multiple worlds, as long as our races can get there and survive. Our starting point is really low, and the World Gods will likely try to kill us all, however, we scale into late-game gods!]

The comments below this post were a flurry of agreements, astonishment, shock, and excitement, with hints of scepticism mixed in here and there.

James noted this information before turning his attention back to Neues Reich. There, he noticed how a few creatures were trying to survive on the land and on the surface of the water.

James instantly decided to use his special talent on them, especially the ones that were surviving on land, and information entered his mind before it could begin. Once he used this ability, he would be tying his race to this particular species. His own life and death would follow this particular source of genetic ancestry. All other life that existed as of this moment would no longer belong to him.

He paused for a few moments, weighing his options before shrugging and accepting the risk.

[Rigid Ribcage]

[Radiation Absorption]

[Mucus Skin]

[Fingered Fins]

Immediately and without hesitation, he selected Radiation Absorption, and then waited for it to take effect across his entire species.

Within moments, as countless days passed by on Neues Reich, the creatures he had tied himself to as their race spirit, began climbing out of the over-crowded ocean where there was only food for the predators higher up on the food chain.

James watched in fascination as their fins slowly gained claws and fingers, before turning thicker. As the generations passed, these half-fins were able to drag the creatures on land, rather than themselves having to just flop around like helpless fish.

More importantly, he noticed their gills vanishing, and the creatures taking in breath through their mouths. And to bear the weight of their bodies, rib-cages formed. Despite not actually being able to see the ribcages, James was able to perceive such changes to his own race as a whole, and was internally glad.

However, the biggest difference he felt was a change in the energy without his soul. He could feel a special energy form within him whenever those of this race died, and he would lose some energy when more were born. Thankfully, despite how many countless creatures of his race had been born thus far, they only took up a very minute amount of his own energy, and he knew he could easily support thousands of times more creatures. Plus, the energy he gained from the deaths was on average 1.5 times more than what it took for a creature to be born.

As such, for every 2 deaths, he could allow for 3 to be born, which was a very positive cycle.

Unfortunately, as time passed, more branches of his race appeared, and he had to select which one to follow as his own race, the rest would just become normal life-forms, with the traits James had given them at the point of separation.

'This one is slowly turning back into fish, gaining back the amphibious features, which I don't want. Be gone~' James excluded them and a few others from his race, and watched his selected race evolve over the generations.

Soon, another hundred years had passed, but he did not find a suitable target, so he just kept it with him and waited.

The creatures of his race gradually formed nostrils and began to give birth through hard-shelled eggs, eliminating their need to live near water. Though they still needed water to survive.

During this period of time, James observed a single of his creatures exploring a dessert area of the land. Noting it had lived here for what to the creature would have felt like a good 2 years, James decided to use his talent on it, to see what allowed it to survive in such harsh conditions.

[Heat circulation]

[Radiation Absorption & Conversion]

[Reflective skin]

[Water storage]

[Eye-protective covering]

He noticed the radiation one had changed from the rest and checked it out for more information, utterly baffling himself in the process. This talent allowed the creature to absorb radiation from all across the spectrum and convert it into sustenance in the form of energy directly eliminating the need for food, and water could be recirculated within the body without needing to expend it much except for waste materials.

It was an absolutely absurd ability for a mobile creature to possess, and immediately he decided to take it in as a trait. Though this trait was reduced in efficiency, taking more radiation to get the same amount of energy, it reduced his race's dependency on actual food sources.

'Still, I'm not sure if this is good or bad… what happens if they simply give up on hunting for food and just bast in the sun all day every day…' James sighed at the possibility before deciding he would cross that bridge when he came to it.

'For now, it is time to see how the race flourishes.'
