Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Cat, Skyfall vs. Green Plum

It was another morning.

Vincent changed into his winter outdoor attire before heading to school. It was also the last day of school this week. The day after tomorrow was the annual Christmas, and high schools of all sizes across the United States would be on holiday starting tomorrow, marking a full week of short vacation.

Passing the intersection, he didn't run into Gwen as usual, and he didn't know if she was still taking sick leave today.

However, as he passed the intersection next to the residential area, a small orange beast darted out from the park's lawn, startling Vincent.

Perhaps it was because he had opened the door to the extraordinary since the night before last, and had frequently encountered extraordinary matters.

With one foot on the threshold of the other world, Vincent was physically and mentally exhausted, his worldview constantly refreshing, and he was still unaccustomed to the tense state of his mind and heartstrings.

Vincent cautiously scanned the area and saw a little orange cat crouching on the ground. It was one or two years old, its body slightly thin, and its orange fur clearly indicated its breed.

"It's just a little orange cat." Vincent secretly breathed a sigh of relief, but also couldn't help but smile bitterly.

He had been truly oversensitive lately. The world was so vast, how could he so easily encounter the extraordinary?

"What's wrong, are you hungry?"

Vincent saw that the little orange cat had no name tag around its neck and looked pitifully dirty, so he knew it was probably a stray cat abandoned in the park.

After thinking for a moment, Vincent ran to a nearby convenience store, bought three sausages, and turned back.

Seeing Vincent, the bipedal beast, approach, the little orange cat quickly hid back into the bushes, faintly revealing a pair of emerald green vertical pupils, its eyes full of deep wariness.

"This is edible, look." Vincent unwrapped a sausage in front of it and happily ate one, then placed the remaining two sausages on the ground in front of the bushes.

With class time approaching, Vincent didn't linger too long.

After he walked out of the park, he looked back and saw the distant bushes shake violently, and the sausages on the ground had already vanished.

Vincent smiled knowingly and continued on to school.

Within the bushes.

Those emerald green vertical pupils watched Vincent disappear. The little orange cat licked its paw, its small cat belly not showing any sign of being full. As for the two sausages just now, including the packaging, they had completely disappeared… At the school gate.

Vincent ran into Gwen, who had also just arrived at school. Both of them were visibly surprised to see each other.

"Gwen, is your cold better?" Vincent stepped forward to greet her.

However, Gwen suddenly puffed out her cheeks, intentionally ignored him, and quickened her pace into the school.

Vincent was utterly bewildered.

What was going on?

A young girl's thoughts were truly hard to fathom.

Vincent shook his head, clueless, and decided not to think about it.

However, he still had to chase after her.

Vincent quickened his pace to catch up. But the faster he chased, the faster Gwen ran ahead.

The two ran into the teaching building, one after the other.

Just then, a girl called out to Vincent in the hallway: "Senior, please stop for a moment."

Vincent looked up and saw a junior female student, about fifteen years old.

Her golden hair was tied into an old-fashioned single ponytail, with many strands messily resting on her forehead and cheeks. Coupled with thick-rimmed black glasses, her habit of looking down and not daring to meet people's eyes made her seem like a homebody, an invisible presence in school, or perhaps the perfect target for bullying and mockery among girls her age.

Vincent had no particular impression of this female student. Out of politeness, he gently asked, "Student, is there anything I can help you with?"

"Um…" The girl hesitated, bit her lip, and then mustered her courage, saying, "Senior, my name is Kara Danvers. We met at the orientation party."

"I remember now." Vincent realized. He remembered that at the orientation party, this female student had stayed alone in a deserted corner outside the crowd. Perhaps remembering some of his own experiences before he met Gwen in his childhood, he couldn't bear it and went forward to greet this student, explaining some of the school's rules and regulations to her.

However, that was almost half a year ago.

"You still remember me." The girl's eyes immediately lit up, and she lifted her head slightly, staring intently at Vincent. She had been hesitant, but now she seemed to have finally made up her mind.

"Hmm?" Whether it was his own Spider-Sense being too keen, or a woman's sixth sense, Gwen, who had stopped at the front of the hallway, saw this scene and suddenly had a bad premonition.

She wanted to step forward and interrupt Kara's next words.

But as if anticipating Gwen's intention to interrupt, Kara secretly clenched her fists, and her pouring out of words quickened as if in one breath: "Senior, I… I like you. Please be my boyfriend!"

Her voice was not loud, but not small either; almost the entire hallway could hear it clearly.

Vincent's mouth fell open.

"This!" Gwen, who was a step too late, her beautiful eyes contracted sharply. A few seconds later, the students in the hallway burst into an uproar.

"Youth is truly wonderful."

A passing teacher turned a blind eye, shaking his head and sighing with a comment… Ring, ring, ring!

The dismissal bell rang.

The huge high school campus was accompanied by a burst of noise, and a large number of students poured out of the teaching building. Besides some discussing courses and lunch, most were still talking about the Silver-Haired Goddess and the campus confession incident from the morning.

Childhood Sweetheart VS Girl from the Sky?

Popularity Ranking NO.1 VS Popularity Ranking NO.1 from the bottom?

This was definitely going to be in the school newspaper's weekly report! But thankfully, after today, there would be a week-long short vacation.

Vincent, the male protagonist of this incident, packed his things early and walked out of the school gate. Behind him, Gwen, carrying her schoolbag with one hand, quickly caught up, kicking her boots. She had completely forgotten her earlier embarrassment. Gwen asked angrily, "Vincent, you wouldn't really agree to a confession from a girl you just met, would you?"

"It wasn't our first meeting," Vincent corrected, "It was our second meeting."

"Second time, that's too exaggerated!" Gwen immediately became anxious.

"Don't worry, I didn't agree to her."

"But you didn't refuse either."

"That's because…" Vincent paused, looking at Gwen seriously: "Do you know? Confessing in public means she showed a lot of courage."

"I haven't figured out how to respond to her courage and determination yet," Vincent said, then added apologetically, "I'm sorry, Gwen, for accidentally dragging you into this. This matter originally had nothing to do with you."

Gwen stared blankly at Vincent's retreating figure as he continued to walk forward. Her soft, moist lower lip was tightly bitten by her teeth at some point.

No, it's not that it has nothing to do with me.

Gwen thought to herself.
