Tonia's POV
Days had passed since Kermit made his decision, and now the moment had arrived. My heart thundered against my ribcage, each beat echoing in my ears like distant drums. No amount of deep breathing could calm the storm raging inside me.
My palms were slick with perspiration. Every time I dried them against the fabric of my dress, the moisture returned within seconds. This level of terror was foreign to me now. Perhaps terror wasn't quite accurate. Anxiety might be closer to the truth.
I had never experienced nerves this intense before.
From the doorway, I watched Kermit sitting on the bed with our children. His determination to proceed with this revelation baffled me. I had spent days trying to persuade him that we could maintain this secret until they matured enough to handle the truth.
My reasoning seemed sound at the time. Why burden such young minds with this complexity?
