Chapter 29 - Getting Closer (2)

Back before Thea arrived...

"Hey Sirius, you know? I was seriously the head of the class back then."

"That much I expected. You look like the type after all."

"... I'm sure I don't look like the nerdy type with glasses and braided hairs."

Sirius lets out a laugh upon hearing her description.

"I mean, not really. Yeah you don't in fact. It's the vibes that I am talking about."

Sol tilts her head, leaning close.

"And what vibes are you getting from me?"

"That you look like the neat clean type, you look like you study hard, wear sweaters, glasses, study while listening to music, go to the library, and read books and watch movies on the bed with your laptop."

Sirius finishes, before continuing after a breath.

"Or even be Thea's therapist."

Sol blinks for a few time, looking at Sirius with surprise.

"Are you my secret stalker?"

Sirius chuckles, shaking his head.

"No of course not, if I was your secret stalker I wouldn't be talking to you about this you know?"

Sol giggles, kicking back and forth as Sirius continues.

"Besides, your dad told me about some part of your life. Which include what I said just now."

"Oh. So that's why..."

Sol sighs before meeting his eyes with a deadpan.

"Anyways, I don't think there's much of my story before the Apocalypse, I'm just your normal introverted girl going to school and socializing only when talked to. Still am now though!"

She flashes him a grin as he chuckles.

"I see... then what about your dearest sister?"

"Thea... mmh... she's that one social butterfly that surprisingly likes being home. One day she's an extrovert, literally saying hi to everyone and security guards, playing around with kids on the park, like genuine children."

Sirius raise one of his brows as he nod a few times.

"Then the very next day, she stays at home, walking around while wearing the blanket and hugging it. Never once coming out of her room. But you know what she's doing inside her room? Playing games. She also plays with her mic on if there is a mic option just to trashtalk."

"Oh."

Sol chuckles, seeing Sirius' reaction as she let out a hum.

"I think she also developed a sis-con or whatever it was called for me... which kind of concerns me but she looks adorable when she clings to me or needs pampering."

"... I see..."

Sirius smiles at Sol' smiling face as she looks up at the sky.

"As for my dad... first of all, did he tell you about his own life?"

"As far as I remember... no, not really. He only talks about you and Thea all the time. And well... nevermind."

"Oh... okay. Well, you probably already know some things about him. Also... did he not tell you about mom or anything?"

"Oh. That..."

Sirius shift his body awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Um... I think he is very in love I suppose..."

"Ah."

Sol lets out a sigh, covering her face with one hand.

"... Yeah."

"... What did he talk to you about if I may know?"

"... He is a very clingy man behind the eyes of the public?"

Sol covers her face with the both of her hands.

"He told me this when he got drunk by the way, after he finished training me."

"Ah, I see now why he told you"

"... He threatened to kill me if I ever speak of it to anyone."

"... Didn't you just tell me that?"

"I... sh*t."

Sol laughs, throwing her head back as Sirius stares at her silently with a deadpan look.

Sol stops laughing as she looks at Sirius with a smirk.

"Yeah you're dead."

"... You're going to snitch on me?"

"Mmhm!"

She smirks at Sirius, and Sirius stares at her with shock and a pained look, albeit a fake one.

"How could you? I trusted you."

Sol simply giggles as Sirius grumbles before leaning to the pool and scooping some water on his palm before whipping the water onto Sol's face.

Splash

Sol blinks, looking at Sirius as he lets a satisfied smirk paint his face.

"... I see."

Sol stares at Sirius.

"Right, I forgot to mention this, but my Rune is actually called Shift. I don't really heal, surprisingly, but I actually accelerate the rate of your body's regeneration speed to fasten your natural regeneration."

Sirius blinks for a few times before nodding.

"That's a cool Rune... but what correlation does that have?"

Sol takes off her cloak, revealing her beautiful figure.

Surprisingly, despite being a nerd, she keeps a healthy lifestyle of cardios and calisthenics.

Her body, though not muscular, could be defined as a beauty.

Not too skinny and yet not too fat, simply perfect right in the middle.

Sol grabs onto Sirius' hand and yank him with her to the pool.

"Wh-"

Sirius, with a lowered guard didn't expect her to drag him to the pool as they both submerge.

After a few seconds, they emerge from the water.

Sol looks at Sirius with a grin while Sirius stares at her with wide eyes.

"Oh no~ you're getting snitched by me~ will you catch me and then kidnap me to silence me?!"

Sol giggles while swimming away as she escape away from Sirius.

Sirius simply watch as she gets further away while giggling and looking back at him.

"You can't swim away from me, Sol."

Sirius forms chains of blue, and he imagine the structure of the chains durable yet soft, with no friction that would be generated if those chain wraps around.

The chains slithers towards Sol's waist as she suddenly feel the chains, and with a surprised look, she yelps as she feels the strong pull.

As she drifts back, the chains slowly disperse, no, it flows once she gets in front of Sirius.

The flowing chains form a chain around her wrists as she now float in front of him.

Her eyes widen upon seeing the chains.

"U-Um Sirius?"

Sirius tilts his head with a smile.

"Yes?"

"... Nothing."

'Holy sh*t.'

A thought slips inside Sol's mind as she sees Sirius.

His hair wet and damp, his bangs running down his face and covering his sharp blue eyes, yet they still remain visible through the gaps of the hair.

The back of his hairs reach down his shoulder, paints of old scars covering his body.

Sol looks away, not used to this kind of... play fight? Joke? How did she and Sirius get to this point anyway?

But she appreciates that Sirius doesn't touch her without asking for it. Sure they have gotten close...

But she wouldn't really like it if he touches her waist without her permission.

...

Why did she think that he's going to touch her waist?

Shaking the creeping thoughts out of her mind, she looks at Sirius, the former playful atmosphere now gone as Sirius seem to also realise their position.

So he desummons the chains as they float silently, looking at each other.

"Ah. Your clothes are wet..."

Sirius suddenly speaks as Sol looks down before nodding.

"Mm. Yeah... I, well. My Rune will accelerate the time it takes for the clothes to dry up... so that's why I jumped in with my clothes on."

"Ah. I see..."

Sol nods shyly, a bit awkward as she stays silent, looking at the pool.

Sirius looks around before settling his gaze on the edge of the pool where it leads to the outside view of the city.

"Sol, follow me."

"Hm? Okay..."

Sirius leads the way as he swim towards the edge with Sol following behind.

Upon reaching the edge, they could see the desolate post Apocalypse city more clearly and a wider view.

Sol widens her eyes as she takes in the view.

Sirius smiles upon seeing her reaction as they simply look at the city with silence, taking in the atmosphere.

The sound of their faint breathing and the wind are the only thing that fills the room.

But then, it was Sol who broke the silence.

"When the Apocalypse happened, I luckily was eating dinner with Thea, dad, and mom."

Sirius glance over to Sol as she continues.

"Dad told us to stay behind, while he explore the area. He told us he will protect us, no matter what."

"He did, he protected us. Though he came back, beaten up with blood covering his body."

"Some of those blood were his, but some were from the Calamities."

Sol lets out a shudder.

"Thinking back... I remember when he came back to us, dying."

"The three of us tried our best to stop the bleeding, and we even checked our Runes once we saw it."

"I saw my Rune, I didn't know what to do with it. But I just hoped, I imagined his blood clotting to block the blood from flowing out of his body, I imagined his body recovering, muscles building back, bones building back, and flesh building back."

Sol lets out a sigh, her hands trembling as she brings them up to the edge of the pool.

"I was afraid, and I just begged, begged for this Rune thing to work..."

Sol slowly smiles as she remembers the past.

"It worked, after a few seconds. The blood stopped flowing, his body started recovering, though not by much. I know that I'm not a doctor or a medical student, but I know that he cannot lose any more blood... So my Rune first stopped the bleeding."

"After that... Dad told us about how he hunted a Fallen. A Fallen."

Sirius widens his eyes, a Blessed Seed killing a Fallen? A new fresh out of the batch Seed?

Truly, his respect for Cassian grows even more.

"Even I was surprised upon finally learning about Fallens."

"Mom got angry and told him to stay and never try something reckless like that ever again. Because, he could've just ran away quietly, escaped... but he hunted it."

Sol chuckles as she takes a break, enjoying the view of the city once again.

"After that... he started gathering allies, people that knew how to kill the Calamities. No, not exactly that... it's people that has the bravery to fight I think. He said, he doesn't need anyone that knows how to fight but is not brave enough to fight and protect others, simply wanting to protect himself.."

"He didn't let me and Thea fight though... while mom? He lets her join him after her relentless pestering. She didn't want to leave him alone to fight. Although dad agreed, he told her that she needed to protect me and Thea, so she reluctantly agreed on staying behind to protect us."

Sol sighs before taking a deep breath and exhaling.

"Well, luckily dad survived and he even met you right? Until you and dad became the cornerstone of the Post, everyone's hero..."

Sol smiles, her cheeks slightly tinted pink as she looks up at him.

No words were said, but Sirius smiles and nod at her as she smiles back.

He knows her personality, even from the only interactions he have with her, and she knows about his personality, someone who prefer to stay in the shadows of the spotlight.

She had already said too many thank yous.

"Well... after that, I didn't really get much opportunity to fight, me and Thea were mostly sheltered. Until Thea decided that she wants to fight, to improve herself to be able to protect us. I joined in too, not wanting to leave the burden to Thea."

"But well, dad still didn't let us on the expeditions. But he still let us fight against Seed Calamities."

Sol chuckles, a flash of memory forming in her mind.

"After that... we trained hard and hard. Though Thea mostly did so, while I simply train my stamina and my Rune control."

"Never went through your hellish training though, so I had it easy."

Sol looks at Sirius with a grin as he smile while rolling his eyes.

Sol smiles at Sirius reaction as she stays silent, her story finished as she looks at the city with Sirius.

The moon looks beautiful tonight.
