Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 - The Fragment

"These are high seals." One of the masters commented. I was pretty sure Tsunade wanted to interrogate me. But you can't exactly threaten someone who can melt a 7-layer isolation seal.

"I was wrong. This place isn't as old as the village. It is far older. These seals are lost ancient seals that the Fuinjutsu masters have tried to decipher since time immemorial. They work on completely different principles. All we know about them is this: They are extremely old, like beyond known history old, and extremely powerful. Usually found in well-preserved ruins from the bygone era. Something very old and powerful wanted this place sealed, and it failed." He whispered as another pulse came out.

"We need to turn back. Now"

"You can't tell anything?", I asked.

"We don't know anything about the working of these seals to tell you anything. I only recognised them from research archives. Wait, there's something written. Here in ancient language. Not in seals but normal words. Let me see, it has been a while…."

We all gave him a little space.

"To the soldier, no that's not correct. Warrior! Yes, Warrior who has replied, no answered the summon, May fate favor you." I think. But, summons feels like the wrong word. It's close, but it doesn't really fit." He rubbed his beard. Now fully engrossed in the academic pursuit.

"The call?" I asked. "Yes," he exclaimed. Then his expression faded into uncertainty as he stared at me with a questioning gaze. "That's exactly it, the call," he murmured.

"It asks him to place his hand on that central seal." They all looked at me. Well, makes sense. I was the most suspicious and likely to succeed guy here. Between the incoming pulses, I walked up to the door. Now that I thought about it, these gave me the kind of feeling when my soul was upgraded. Not the same but similar.

"Let's stop here, kid, I kinda believe you now," Tsunade whispered, but before her sentence was completed, I had placed my hand on the seal. A probing energy flowed out, entering and poking through my body. The seals glowed, and slowly their power dissipated.

With a rumbling sound, the door opened into a hall. Another wave, this time stronger than before, hit us.

There were four intricately carved pillars of stone in a square shape. They made a blue sphere of energy. In the middle of the sphere was a pedestal on which an orb floated. The orb was as white as something can be. It is shown with a bright light. A pulse escaped it. Visible this time. It hit the shield. Losing color. And a second later, we were hit with those pulses. The runes on the pillars are shown. Absorbing power. And then using it to strengthen the shield. It was kind of funny. The stupid orb was imprisoned by its own power.

But its appearance was weird and blurred. Kind of like a corrupted film. As if Reality itself was broken where it existed. As if its presence here was harmful to the world and itself. As if they were in conflict.

I don't know why I felt like referring to it as if it were alive.

"This is it. This is what my feelings were pointing towards."

"We should stop here."

"You promised me, Lady Tsunade."

"Yes, but.."

Before she could protest, I moved. I needed to take that fragment. This had already gone too far. I was definitely gonna be investigated and probably experimented on by Danzo. I would feel much better with the fragment than without it. I ran and entered the shield just as another pulse emerged. An elite jonin was right behind me to prevent my advance.

The pulse passes right through me. I felt like I had just taken a warm bath. While the jonin was reduced to nothing. Yes, there was no sound, no violence. The wave touched him, and he turned to dust that burned to nothingness before anyone could react. An Elite Jonin! Gone! Just like that. But before I could think much, I had already touched the Fragment.

I felt weak as the orb drained something. Something within me stirred as my SS nosedived again. But his time into negative. -100SS. I didn't know that was possible.

-1000SS.

-2000SS.

-3000SS

The numbers plummeted as the energies interacted.

One is reluctant and standoffish. The other coaxing is like you coax a cute cat on the street. The system was trying to assimilate it. As the SS dropped my existence plummeted.

No, not my life. Not my soul. My very existence. I could feel myself flickering in and out of existence from the tapestry of the very Universe.

-8000SS

-9000SS

-10000SS

The orb pulsed once — as if it had understood. Then it dissolved into a stream of light, swirling upward before coalescing around me in a spiraling embrace.

And then I saw it.

At the spot where it had floated moments ago… reality itself had torn open. A rip in space, raw and trembling.

My soul wrenched apart — that familiar sensation of being stretched suddenly turned to agony. Fire licked through my veins; every nerve screamed as if my existence was being rewritten.

The darkness within the tear began to move. Something vast and ancient stirred beyond it. I suddenly had the idea that I was looking at something not darkness. Slowly, the creature's eye came into view. Blood Red, with concentric ripples like a Rinnegan, and at its center, a vertical slit pupil with the signature tomoe— the mark of the Sharingan.

It took a second for my muddled brain to catch up when I remembered. I had seen this before. Actually, it was an eye that had been seen and committed to memory by almost all Naruto fans ever.

The eye of the Ten-Tails.

Its gaze warped the space around it, pressure so immense my breath hitched.

A fusion of godlike sight and primal hunger — the origin of all chakra.

The fusion of the orb continued. Pain skyrocketed. And my world went black.
