Chapter 36 - A Nᴇᴡ Bᴇɢɪɴɴɪɴɢ

Four years had passed since Kimberly's very first hunt.

Four years of blood, sweat, and sharp teeth.

She was no longer the scared girl living beside a dumpster.

Now she was a full-fledged hunter. A vampire who hunted monsters — and won.

Wendigos at the docks.

Necromancer skeletons in forgotten graveyards.

Mermaids dragging fishermen to the bottom of the sea.

Werewolves out of control.

Mummies brought back from the desert by rich, reckless collectors.

Witches corrupted by their own magic.

Vampires who thought they were the ultimate predators.

Kim had scars for every one of them.

But she also had stories — and a reputation.

That morning, Roshi was sitting at the table, head down, clutching a wrinkled letter.

Fresh out of the shower, Kim noticed the unusual silence.

"Morning, old man," she said, drying her hair. "Why the funeral vibe?"

He took a deep breath.

"The rent. My benefit was cut. I tried fixing it… I failed. We're getting kicked out in a week."

Kim froze.

A week?

After everything they had survived?

She clapped her hands together, a sly smile forming.

"Okay, no panic. I already know how to fix this."

Roshi raised a suspicious eyebrow.

"I'm already scared of what's coming."

"We make official what we already do: monster hunting. A business. A service. Client calls, we kill the beast, we get paid. Easy."

Roshi blinked several times.

"And who exactly will believe that?"

Kim laughed as she grabbed her jacket.

"Preston."

The Blood's Bar still smelled like booze, cigarettes, and bad decisions.

Preston wiped the counter, squinting at Roshi as he talked.

"You want to use my bar as… an office?" Preston grumbled.

"This place already attracts enough lunatics."

Kim, leaning against the wall, inhaled deeply and then… let her fangs show.

Her eyes turned wine-red.

Preston dropped the cloth in shock.

"W-w-WHAT—?"

"Vampire," Kimberly said casually. "But the kind that kills monsters instead of people. We can keep this place way safer than any hired guard."

Silence.

Then Preston sighed, defeated.

"This is too much. But fine… the secret entrance is through the jukebox.

Don't make me regret this."

Kim grinned.

"Thanks, boss."

And that's how Hunter's Den was born — or as Roshi advertised online:

"Monster Hunters – Confidential. You call it, it dies."

A bit dramatic… but catchy.

Their first serious message showed up two days later.

A young man named Kenan sent a desperate email:

"My brother disappeared in a nightclub in Argun City.

The police won't believe me. But I know… something is wrong there."

Kim strapped on her weapons and long coat.

"Finally," she murmured, excited.

"Real work."

"Be careful," Roshi warned.

"Argun City isn't a playground. If it's vampires, you'll be on their turf."

"And I am what I am." She winked. "They'll just have to deal with it."

The nightclub's neon sign glared its name: Crimson Bite.

A long line of college kids crowded the entrance, craving cheap thrills.

Kim walked in like she belonged:

black jacket, dark makeup, confident strides.

But the second she crossed the door…

she felt it.

Blood. A lot of it.

And not just human.

"Definitely a vampire nest…" she muttered.

Red lights flickered, bodies danced to pounding music.

But beyond the smoke and glamour…

Kim noticed hungry eyes scanning every human in sight.

That's when she saw them — five students: three guys, two girls.

And among them… a clueless boy laughing loudly.

Roberto.

Completely unaware of what was coming.

Kim followed as two seductive hostesses led the group into the VIP room.

The hallway was dark, far from the main floor.

The smell of fresh blood grew stronger.

"That's enough," Kim growled under her breath.

When the doors shut behind them, the music vanished…

and the real party started.

The hostesses bared their fangs.

The students barely had time to react.

Kim kicked the door open with force.

"Party's over, bloodsuckers."

The fight was fast and brutal.

Kim shot a vampire lunging at Roberto.

Snapped another's neck from behind.

Drove a wooden stake into a third, straight from her boot.

The humans ran screaming — except Roberto, frozen and staring at his savior.

"W-who are you?!" he stuttered.

"Your temporary babysitter. Now run." she ordered.

With the room clear, she searched the back and found a heavy steel door.

Inside, chained and almost drained dry… was Kenan's brother.

Kim hauled him over her shoulder and slipped out before reinforcements arrived.

Hours later, Kenan's brother was safe with paramedics.

Kenan thanked her in tears and sent the payment.

Case closed.

At least… it should've been.

Because from the moment she left the Crimson Bite, one sound kept chasing after her:

"Hey! Wait!" — Roberto's breathless voice.

Kim sighed, already annoyed.

When she turned, there he was — persistent, fascinated, and utterly smitten with his savior.

"I… I just wanted to thank you!" he said, eyes shining.

"You were amazing in there! What's your name?

Can I buy you dinner? Follow you on Instagram?

When can I see you again?"

Kim rolled her eyes dramatically.

"Great. I got myself a fan." she muttered, speeding her pace.

But he kept following — same energy, same determination:

"Hey! Don't go before telling me your name!"

Kim smirked to herself.

Something told her this kid wasn't giving up anytime soon.

And she had no idea…

just how much he was about to change her life.
