Silence fell after she said that. Bai Yue just stared at the smiling Su Ling in shock, her mind blank. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. How could that possibly be a method to cure her son? How could it work? How?
However, the longer she stared at the smug-looking Su Ling, the more she felt the woman was not being serious.
"Wha—what? Did I hear you right? Did you say, 'DUAL CULTIVATE'? With MY son?! ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE FUN OF ME?" Bai Yue roared in anger, the entire room shaking with her overwhelming power.
The air chilled, filled with ice crystals that turned the beautiful plum blossoms into sharp ice daggers. In an instant, the once comfortable room became an icy wasteland.
Su Ling didn't respond. Instead, she raised an eyebrow and glanced at Wu Yang—as if to say, You'd better deal with this person yourself.
Bai Yue also turned toward her son, glaring at him with her beautiful yet cold eyes. "Yang'er, is this woman serious? Or is it because you have some improper thoughts toward your mother that you're using such ridiculous nonsense to fulfill your desire? Answer me! Speak the truth right now!"
"Mom! I promise you that what she said is not a joke. She already explained to me what needs to be done... and even taught me the Dual Cultivation technique!"
Wu Yang didn't dare hide anything from his mother. He didn't want to lie to her or let her believe the wrong thing. It was already hard enough to convince her. If she thought he was doing this only because of his desires, then... He didn't even want to imagine it.
"Mom, to heal my body and restore my cultivation, dual cultivation with someone who has higher cultivation and pure Yin Essence is required. And, as you know, there isn't anyone who would be willing to help me like that," Wu Yang said, his expression bitter. "So, this leaves me with only one option... to dual cultivate with my closest blood relative who has high cultivation."
Wu Yang paused and glanced at his mother, his gaze filled with helplessness. He felt like a beggar asking for alms. It was humiliating, yet there was nothing else he could do.
Seeing how ashamed her son appeared to be, Bai Yue realized he was being honest. She then looked back at Su Ling, a flicker of apprehension appearing on her face.
"Is it true?" Bai Yue asked again, this time her tone gentler. "Is there really no other way? Do we truly have to resort to... that?"
Su Ling nodded and replied in a serious tone, "Indeed. It is the only effective method. Now, it's up to you. Do you want to cure your son or not? The decision is yours."
She then waved her hand, giving both Wu Yang and Bai Yue a faint smile before disappearing, leaving the two alone.
Once the woman vanished, Bai Yue stared at her son and whispered in a shaky voice, "Yang'er... this is something I cannot decide right away. I need time to think... You should get some rest in the meantime."
"Mom... don't feel forced to agree to something like that because of me. We can always search for someone who might be willing to heal me through dual cultivation. There must be someone out there, right?" Wu Yang didn't want his mother to sacrifice her body just because he needed help. It didn't feel right...
He loved his mother so much—so very much. How could he hurt her this way? How could he make her feel ashamed or disgusted? How could he be such a burden to her? No... he shouldn't let her go through this. No matter what...
Bai Yue shook her head, unwilling to listen. She raised her hand, covering him with a blanket before turning around to leave. But before she could walk away, Wu Yang called out to her.
"Mom, don't you dare think about making a decision based on my condition... Promise me!" Wu Yang shouted as loudly as he could. "Please..."
His voice was hoarse and weak, cracking at times. His pale face contorted into a painful expression, as though he were enduring unbearable suffering.
"Fine..." Bai Yue murmured softly, then left the room.
Once alone, Wu Yang stared at the ceiling above him. His emotions were in disarray. He felt many feelings inside his heart: self-hatred, anger, helplessness, and also... a certain type of expectation.
It was very slight, but he felt it was there. Which made it all the more painful for him to bear.
"Why are you making things so difficult for yourself, Wu Yang?" Su Ling's amused voice resounded in his ears. "Isn't it just an intimate act between mother and son? It's not something you should make so complicated in your mind."
Wu Yang snorted, "Master, since when did this become a simple issue? We're talking about a mother and son having... relations... here. Aren't you being a little too casual about this?"
"Hahaha... It's you who are thinking like a frog at the bottom of a well, limiting your thoughts to the beliefs of this lower realm," Su Ling laughed, shaking her head. "In the higher realms, incest happens all the time to preserve bloodlines. Bloodlines are powerful things—the purer they are, the more powerful the offspring will become. For that reason, if a clan wishes to ensure their lineage remains strong, they would never allow their descendants to marry outside the family."
Wu Yang couldn't help but feel like an ignorant fool as he listened to his master's words. However, her words also made him understand that things weren't quite the same for those in the higher realms.
It seemed incest happened far more often there. And perhaps... it was something he and his mother shouldn't worry about so much.
But his mother probably didn't know what things were like in the higher realms. And so, she might think of this in a different light than what Su Ling described.
