Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

November 2, 1980

I was sleeping in my room when I heard the news that I was one of the people going over to the conjoined room with the woman. I was shocked, but then again looking back at it, I was pretty loud of a person. Not personality wise rather in games. You see, usually I'm a pretty quiet person, however in games I always come out on top. It's given me the reputation of "The Game Master" if you want to call it that. Especially ever since I killed Terreance, people have this look like I'm some cold killer, but I've also gained some respect here for it. Even if some people want to kill me, I know none have ever tried it and if they did they were pretty much killed. Not usually by me, but in the games. Riley and Harrison also got to go with me. I'm not sure how Riley got this far, but whatever the case was, I'm sure it wasn't rewarding to Riley and I understand fully well why it wasn't. Despite not even being here for that long, Harrison somehow made it. Then again with someone with so many kills on him from Russian Roulette, it would make sense why he was chosen. A few other guys, I'd probably say 6 came with us as well. None too important to really mention. The guards let us through the doors and we walked outside the door. The first time we were actually able to leave that damn room. The only times we were ever allowed to leave was when we were dragged to shoot each other in the head behind other closed doors in a small room with glass windows for those sick guards to watch. Before we could move forward though, we heard a load of gun shots being fired and the sound of men yelling and choking. The footsteps running up on the ground sounded like rats scurrying around before it eventually went silent and the guards came out with some bit of blood on their orange clothing. I could feel the amount of dread on everyone's bodies as some were stiff and some were scared. Even Harrison, who never showed too much fear was slightly more uneasy than usual as if he even knew the gravity of what happened and the fear of it being him in there if he didn't come out. I checked Riley, but for some reason, he didn't look scared, just sad. All that progress and effort he had made trying to make those guys see the good in things was erased when that first gun shot was fired.

"All those men, gone…" one of the guys solemnly said, which snapped everyone from their stiff state. The guard heard him and retorted

"Just be lucky it wasn't you in there." We walked through the halls as our footsteps were louder than the next. Everyone was anxious I could tell, I was a bit too. Especially since it's been a while since we've been in that jail room. The fact we are here is crazy to believe. Once we made it towards the door the guard pushed and went inside as we followed like a group of sheep. The room looked better than our last. Our old one looked like it could collapse at any moment with a bunch of cracks and mold all over. This one looked new. It was full of clean beds and uncracked walls, and felt like home. Even if it still looked like a jail cell. On one side of the room rested the woman. Some looked pretty, some looked average. Although I didn't get my hopes up, I'd have to kill them eventually so I wasn't planning on getting attached to them. They seemed very scared. I mean to be fair, we men don't look like the nicest people on earth. Some of the guys had tattoos on and some looked like they went through hell. The only two that look decent were me and Riley, not to say we were the most good looking there either though. We still looked like we ran into a muddy wall or something. The door behind us all closed and from the other side we heard the guards speak.

"This is where you all will stay and play more games. You all have shown a lot more skill in ya than the other unlucky people. Don't get too comfortable, but for now, you'll stay here." they said before locking the door and leaving us all in the room. Harrison laughed before joking,

"Man, that shoot out was crazy, right guys?" all the guys couldn't help but look at Harrison like he was crazy and he was, but I don't know. I've been around him a lot and for the first time he seemed more reluctant to say those words. It was like some way for him to cope I guess. It was a weird one too, but we all have our ways to cope, like my journal or Riley's dreams. We met the women when we finally got the courage to talk to them. I wasn't paying attention much, but my attention did peak on these 2 women. The first one was a short girl with fluffy, unruly coral colored hair, big blue eyes and perfect looking light skin to her. She was bubbly for the most part, very outspoken and had this huge smile on her face that warmed up most of the men in the room, even me a little bit admittedly. It does feel better to have another optimist. As much as I was so hard on Riley about being kind, I guess I've warmed up to it. Besides, being on edge all the time was becoming tiring at this point. Her name was Hope, how ironic right? She greeted all the men with a handshake before she had greeted me with one too, but I couldn't help but feel her grip grew stronger with me than the other guys. I know I sound so full of myself writing this just because a girl gave me a good handshake, but I promise that's how it felt. The second was a taller girl, taller than me which was quite baffling. Then again I'm 5'8 so what do you expect? She had long black hair, this elegant look to her like she was a princess. Her name was Evelyn. She was more mature than Hope and she looked quite smart too. I knew all the men were staring at her cleavage like the horny bastards they were, even though it was pretty "eye catching". I feel dirty writing that. So far, it's been our second day here I'd say. It's an interesting feeling now. For once, I saw genuine smiles coming from people. It felt like all the guys faked smiles to intimidate or hide themselves from each other at that jail. Here, it's completely different. All the guys look happy, like this change was nice for them. The women also looked like they felt more safe, their shoulders lessened over time as fear left their bodies. Who knew seeing the opposite gender from you could feel so relieving. I usually kept to myself, talking to Riley mostly who looked less tired than he was before. It looked like the energy in the room really helped him mentally and for once in a while his smiles felt genuine. Damn how long has it been since I saw a real smile from him. Maybe since I first met him or before Lance died? Of course Riley was popular with the girls, he really blended in well with them and got along with them all. Eventually he started to bring some over to me. I wasn't too interested, but the two women, Hope and Evelyn showed up more, sometimes even without Riley bringing them over. Hope and Evelyn were definitely best friends with the way they treated each other, how they were always around each other and it seemed they told each other a lot of things. Hope usually liked to talk about animals since she used to work for the Zoo and she also talked about her favorite drinks to have at Dunkin. Evelyn usually talked about space and that her dad had told her how the stars up in space were dead relatives watching over you to protect you. Sounds like a bunch of bull, but it's interesting to think about. That's kinda my group now at this point. Me, Riley, Hope and Evelyn. The funny thing is Harrison seems more on edge. He doesn't come around me and Riley whenever the girls show up and usually stays on his side of the room away from the woman. I don't why, but that's honestly fine by me, whatever it takes for him to get the hell away from me. He usually is too since Hope is usually around me; Hope has actually asked about my journals and I talked to her about why I have it. For a bubbly and airheaded girl like herself, she sure can keep up with conversation well. It was actually interesting talking with her.

"Maybe she has a thing for you and that's why she pays attention to you a lot more." Riley said, giggling at the thought as if he found our interactions cute. I rolled my eyes at the idea of it, sure she likes me and I think she's nice to talk to and all, but I doubt she feels that way. I don't know, I'm not getting my hopes up yet. I'll just stick here for the ride.
